Yep, if the names being floated for his cabinet are true then it is indeed a scary thing. The problem has always been what will the president-elect do? Can his ego stand not being in charge? Interesting times and I mean that in the Terry Pratchett way.

He’s like an indoor cat that finally got outside and now he has no idea what to do.

donald trump stands for nothing but donald trump. the people who scare me most are those that surround him honestly. he just strikes me as pathetic. always has.

Fake it til you make it right? How hard can that be?

I think he really, really thought he would lose, then go get to build his media empire and retire even richer. He’d be the new Fox News.

I think he’s scared. He looks like a dog at the vet.

The reality of the situation is finally sinking in, I think. In that first photo, he looks like he’s thinking “holy shit, what did I get myself into??”

I am guessing Obama dropped a lot on him and he’s scared crapless

God I hope you’re right. But, I don’t want him to just leave it all to Pence though. I want him to disappoint the GOP like they expected him to in the primary.

It has been clarified by the Supreme Court that law is unconstitutional. It just hasn't been removed from the books.

I was about to post something snarky about how I've come to accept the fact that America hates us and would sooner elect a rapist to Congress than an Atheist, but then I checked the election results and she won. I've been fuming ever since I saw the finale of Battlestar Galactica and this makes me feel better.

One doesn't have to swear on anything, if one doesn't want to. Swearing on a book (the Bible makes good optics, which is what I attribute swearing on the bible to, especially among less fervent believers) is traditional, but legally-speaking one just has to say the words. "So help me God" is also not strictly

Challenge Accepted!

U.S. Constitution, Article VI. Clause 3: "... but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

There is a secular oath of office that removes all religious language and notions of violence ("defending the Constitution" - some read as being condoning violence). I requested the secular oath of office when I was sworn in as a crew leader for the US 2010 census, and I lead my crew of enumerators in reciting it

'Affirm' is also what Quakers choose to do. Quakers come out of the Christian tradition. Following Jesus' admonition, "Do not swear at all... Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No' , anything more than this comes from evil" (Matt. V: 33-37) we choose not to swear an oath but to affirm that we will tell the truth. I

Actually, you weren't. An affirmation is an alternative to an oath. You swear an oath, or you make an affirmation.

My politically-aspirant fiance occasionally jokes about being sworn in on the Origin of Species.

I would be bold enough to say that while that law might be in the books, the federal law against religious persecution would be enough to stop that from going into effect.

Fucking Texas.

Would an atheist swear an oath of office? Or would they affirm, instead?
