There’s a lot of outsourcing going on. For example, a Marketing firm might be sent a version of the build that they can use to get gameplay footage of in order to create a trailer.

You have people complaining that Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal “ruined” Lara because they had her wear non skimpy outfits and gave her a muscular physique to complement the fact that she fucking scales mountains and shoots the bow like nobody’s business.
Assassin’s Creed is a series about someone in the future using technology to send their conscience into the past and inhabit the body of an ancient ancestor to relive their experiences first-hand.
The “historical accuracy” argument only seems to pop up when there are women or minority characters in game, or there is a lack of NAzi symbols in a game. Weird how that works.
It’s “amazing” how all the concerns for historical accuracy always arise when a video game allows us to play as either a minority or a female.
God I’m excited. These are the guys that made Origins and Black Flag, two of my favourite games in the series, and this is an even better time period for me.
As someone who’s favorite movie can be summed up as “two dudes go on a long-ass nature hike to throw out some jewelry”, I’m inclined to agree with you.
I actually really disliked the AC series until I played Odyssey and Origins. I think them pivoting into a more RPG-type game brought me in in a way the first games never could for some reason.
One more Fox News talking point, and you would have had bingo!
The culture of hate on the internet will use ANYTHING to trash something. But really, I mostly see some good old fashioned bigotry at the heart of the interent kerfuffle. Also, if you laid out the bullet points of Citezan Kane I’m sure it wouldn’t necessarily sound like the greatest film ever made.
Preach! You perfectly summed up how I have felt about every last knee jerk reaction on the internet about video games in the past couple years. From people bringing out the pitchforks over RE3make’s play time to declaring FF7 Remake dead before we even have another installment in our hands due to its ending, I’ve been…
Like, I get it guys, being surprised is nice sometimes, but the amount of energy expended on spoilers and spoiler culture is exhausting. Both from artists and storytellers using spoilerphobia as a way to hype up their products and from audience members fetishizing the “perfect” experience.
I used to worry about spoilers, but now I actively look them up. I find it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of the media one iota.
After reading this article, I sought out the spoilers and now having read what happens, I cannot wait to play this game!
Angry nerds will bitch about anything in games that would make them actually think and analize at a deeper level because how dare devs deprive us of instant gratification and self gloating. Not much different from boomers complaining about real world issues influencing comicbooks.
I really hate the idea that knowing what happens at the end of a story “ruins” the story.
I knew what happened at the end of THE LAST OF US 1 before I even owned a playstation, and I still dug it. If the story works, the story works.
IMO, Bungie is fucking up by listening to the community. The Destiny subreddit is one of the most entitled places you can go on the Internet. EVERYTHING is an excuse to bash Bungie for not making the game each individual personally wants and there’s no way to please everyone, so everyone finds something to gripe…
Womp womp.
Noticing a patterns of slideshows on these sites now. Not a fan of it. Feels like a G/O Media thing and it just feels like a sign of things to come. Unfortunate. Thanks for writing this though. I’m assuming it wasn’t your decision to make this a slideshow post.
