Oh be quiet. I literally said that the likes of Doom 2016 and Titanfall 2 do FPS right. I love both of those games and they’re FPS. Call of Duty is dull as rocks compared to those games. Glad you get something out of it, though.

No the good single player shooters actually present the player with interesting mechanics, good enemy variety, engaging level design, etc... COD does not.

Because a good FPS is far, far more than that. A good FPS like Doom 2016 or Titanfall 2 says, “Here’s some dudes to shoot, but we’re also going to have dynamic pacing, interesting level design that encourages movement, interesting enemy types that require different strategies, complementary game mechanics, etc...”

btw

They’re all terrible. I’ve attempted to play a good handful of COD campaigns, even the ones where people said, “No, THIS one is good!!!” and was bored out of my mind within an hour with each one. Every encounter is just “here’s some dudes, shoot them.”

I’m sure the shitty jingoism will still be present in full force, though.

I’m 10-ish hours in and I wouldn’t say it’s totally unoriginal. Big budget AAA games don’t tend to demand so much planning and have so many little survival elements, and the zombies do represent a few cool ideas in terms of their numbers and behaviors. I’ve been enjoying it for sure.

Shit. I think I need to replay The Witcher 3 sometime soon.

Obviously that is a thing that happens, but Thor is little more than the butt of the joke in all of this. That’s my problem with it.

Hated, hated, hated everything about it, but mostly the tired trope of fatness being a byproduct of depression and laziness. And the Fortnite.

I love how this flies in the face of everything Google is trying to do. Hmmmm, so people want to play games more if they get to actually just download them and play them like normal? YOU DON’T SAY.

I sort of get the feeling that this will be a lot like Mad Max, where reviewers were mostly unimpressed but lots of players who had time to play it leisurely and take breaks ended up liking it quite a lot. This isn’t a “reviewers are dumb” comment, mind you; this review is well written and I appreciated it.

If it were an intentional choice they would have done it like Destiny 2 where certain activities are just loadout-locked.

It really is utterly mindblowing that being able to change your gear on the fly had to be an update in a goddamn looter shooter, but I’m glad it’s finally here. Will have to hop back into Anthem soon. The gameplay flow and visuals were awesome enough to keep me playing for a couple weeks at launch and now these QoL

Yeah I mean that’s the thing; if these trick save on processing power as much as they do, I would think you would just move the goal posts and keep on using them. It’s like when people say there’s “no excuse” for all games to not be running at 60fps within a given console generation. I mean, obviously some devs are

Never gonna happen since PS3 was Cell architecture, which is why PS4 never went for backwards compat in the first place.

It’s also a product of Sony not using a super weird Cell processor in the PS4 like they did in the PS3 and opting for a more standard, PC-esque architecture. That’s by far the main reason they haven’t adopted backwards compatibility.

lol wat

Just 60fps, thanks. I’m totally fine to sacrifice resolution for framerate.

Strange, I had the exact same experience. Loved it SO much while playing through it, was awed and amazed by how gorgeous and well-conceived the whole thing was, got the platinum trophy, everything. But every time I dive in for a second playthrough the game just can’t seem to hold my interest.

For me, it comes down to what the core intent of the artist is. In the case of From games, it seems fairly clear to me (though many probably see it differently) that a core, fundamental element of these experiences is the difficulty, though I don’t view it as a “you just have to git gud” kind of difficulty.
