Bingo. Personally, I think child support should be an automatic deduction of a certain % of your paycheck, like a tax, applied to the parent that’s not the main caregiver. It’s not a criminal matter, and treating it like one just screws over everybody involved. 

I don’t think anyone wants to see parents who owe child support avoid their responsibility but there can be no doubt that taking people out of the workforce by locking them up, giving or adding to their criminal records, and making it harder for them to find employment down the line doesn’t help the situation. I’m of 2 minds on the child support one. One says you can’t let people get away with not taking care of their kids, the other says people can’t take care of their kids while they’re jail (whether they want to not).
