I have had a hard time connecting with the cast too this season. I still can’t remember 50% of the people’s names. Up until this episode, I think the issue has been the editing and the elimination of the intro title sequence has a lot to do with it.

It was a really complicated shit show of a situation.

Having binged the show, in the back half, it really does call out the main character for his damsel in distress nonsense, and the ending is based on it. It has a very “500 Days of Summer” vibe. I moved a lot in my youth (2.5 years max in any school). As a result, I’m pretty quiet and very careful with my attachments and friendships. Junior year, I was the only girl in my class, and rarely attended with the enablement of my parents. It apparently had created an aura of mystery around me.
