They issued a recall for about 28,000 Cybertrucks in October, which I assume was all of them. So total number sold (since it started selling since last November) is probably . . . 30,000 to 40,000? Which would put gross revenue at $4 billion on the higher side.

I would not be surprised if whoever at Tesla had to design the robots and run it past Musk copied heavily from that movie. It’s a cool design. 

“Forward facing storage” could work for stuff like airport shuttles and such, but for a public transit bus it would definitely be subpar. 

The “two door” set-up is especially bizarre. If it doesn’t need a driver, wouldn’t you want it to be able to carry up to 5 people? And if can do that, you can probably configure it to be wheelchair-accessible.

Mind you, a highly dexterous robot that could be controlled remotely would be pretty awesome for business purposes - you could pilot it remotely on construction sites and in factories, etc. It just wouldn’t be Household Bot, and they’re clearly selling it as Household Bot (although it’s funny they’re talking about…

At least on paper, it should be easier for Tesla to make this work - they’ve got tons of data for machine training from the Teslas using Self-Driving on the road, it’s a “software problem” (as opposed to Waymo’s “hardware” problem of getting the costs of LIDAR and other equipment down), and so forth.

The hat makes me wonder if he’s going bald again. 

That’s basically what this event is, I suspect - the timing isn’t a coincidence, nor the fact that they didn’t just delay it again even though they don’t have an actual product. They want to get some publicity from fans and a pop to the stock price, in case the 3rd Quarter Financial Results come in disappointing.

So in other words, they still don’t have it ready - but they need to get it out there to boost the share price in case the third quarter results are bad. 

That is a long tunnel (nearly a 30 minute drive at highway speeds), and all the english-speaking countries (Canada included) are terrible at costs when it comes to tunneling projects. 

The whole “techbro” thing has always been overrated - tech employees have and largely continue to donate overwhelmingly to Democrats, even if there is a loud, obnoxious contingent of libertarians* among them.

In the case of the island, it’s poor planning by local officials. They would have known months in advance that a cruise ship was coming on X day, would have Y number of passengers who might come ashore, and so forth.
