“Forward facing storage” could work for stuff like airport shuttles and such, but for a public transit bus it would definitely be subpar.

The “two door” set-up is especially bizarre. If it doesn’t need a driver, wouldn’t you want it to be able to carry up to 5 people? And if can do that, you can probably configure it to be wheelchair-accessible.
Mind you, a highly dexterous robot that could be controlled remotely would be pretty awesome for business purposes - you could pilot it remotely on construction sites and in factories, etc. It just wouldn’t be Household Bot, and they’re clearly selling it as Household Bot (although it’s funny they’re talking about…
At least on paper, it should be easier for Tesla to make this work - they’ve got tons of data for machine training from the Teslas using Self-Driving on the road, it’s a “software problem” (as opposed to Waymo’s “hardware” problem of getting the costs of LIDAR and other equipment down), and so forth.
The hat makes me wonder if he’s going bald again.
That’s basically what this event is, I suspect - the timing isn’t a coincidence, nor the fact that they didn’t just delay it again even though they don’t have an actual product. They want to get some publicity from fans and a pop to the stock price, in case the 3rd Quarter Financial Results come in disappointing.
So in other words, they still don’t have it ready - but they need to get it out there to boost the share price in case the third quarter results are bad.
That is a long tunnel (nearly a 30 minute drive at highway speeds), and all the english-speaking countries (Canada included) are terrible at costs when it comes to tunneling projects.
The whole “techbro” thing has always been overrated - tech employees have and largely continue to donate overwhelmingly to Democrats, even if there is a loud, obnoxious contingent of libertarians* among them.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X.”
That seems a bit of a reach, unless Tesla stock triples or something like that.
That’s a relief, and I assume that’s her next step if her lawyer is any good.
We’ll have to see if it re-opens either there or somewhere nearby under a different name with the same ownership. That happens all the time with restaurants and other smaller-scale businesses that get zinged for wage theft, although some states have passed lien laws that block it and a car dealership seems tricky in…
Backlog of reserved orders, plus they’ve gotten over the supply chain issues with delivering it (not true for the other companies doing EV trucks).
In the case of the island, it’s poor planning by local officials. They would have known months in advance that a cruise ship was coming on X day, would have Y number of passengers who might come ashore, and so forth.
Convincing the big cruise ships away from popular destinations is also hurting the smaller islands. Amorgos, an island of about 2,000 people, saw its first cruise ship arrive in August.
For a SpaceX-funded mission, they wouldn’t have to put it through the crew rating process they did for Crew Dragon.
Starship’s at the point where I could see them trying for a Mars landing with it at the next launch window (by then they’ll have done in-orbit propellant transfer as part of preparing for Artemis) in 2 years. There’s no chance they’re landing crew in the launch window after that, unless they’re not planning on…
These poor folks. What a piece of shit dealer and dealership for this.
Not only is Point Nemo super-far from land with nearly lifeless waters, it’s isolated from any major ocean currents. We drop spacecraft there, but we could probably lower water-tight containers of radioactive waste to its sea floor and never have to worry about it again.
