He is missing the boat because he is not acknowledging why despite the success of Obama’s presidency their would still be a negative reaction from the bigoted part of the electorate. The Democratic Party could not do anything with the voters determined to lash out in their racist spite. You are as tone deaf as he is.

I say this as someone who initially supported Bernie-the man never seems to admit he’s wrong when it comes to his fuck ups on race.

The issue, as I understand it, is this: his delivery is less “What are your concerns?” and more “Look, yeah yeah, I hear ya, just shut up so I can get back to telling you what you should find important.”

They truly believe that no one knows the misdeeds of both Clintons and the US as a whole. It’s paternalistic and condescending.

It’s a strategic decision. He wants to have it both ways, build a coalition that includes scrapping off black/brown voters from traditional Dem candidates, while maintaining his appeal to his overwhelmingly white base.

Bernie will never admit racism has anything to do with the way white people vote. Remember that mess about Trump voters aren’t racist but feel abandoned by mainstream politicians.

So at what point will white people look at these various slip-ups and gaffes and excuses about he “misspoke” and “what he really meant was” and all the other stuff surrounding Bernie and say “hey, maybe he has an issue speaking about race”.
