The biggest issue with battery swaps is the potential to get a battery that was more degraded than your original. I recall people saying you would be credited for that sort of situation, but then you have to live with a battery with a lower overall charge capacity until you roll the dice again on your next road trip.

1st: Everyone (the left and the right) seems to agree that supporting infrastructure is one of the primary functions of government. I’m not sure why we can’t just commit to it. I get that budgets are hard, but certainly one of the root functions of government should be supported before all the other wasteful spending.

Not me, but my dad.

1ST Gear: I mean, it’s being decided for us, so what choice are we going to have in 10-15 years? I hope someone starts thinking of how we’re going to generate the energy to charge these things though.

He likely will not be charged with that.  In his state, it requires either an intentional act or inebriation as a criminal charge.  Nothing for distracted driving.  Though I do wonder if they could just charge regular manslaughter (acting recklessly in a manor a reasonable person would understand could cause death

Many homes are still on 100 amp service. Overnight they potentially get away with 40 or 50, assuming they’re not churning the A/C or electric heat, but it’s iffy at best to start playing with half your home’s total electric supply going into your car.

Is the EV charger the new gas station air pump, that’s going to be out of order for some dumb reason when you really need it and you’ll have to hunt down 3-4 locations to find one that actually works?

Sure, if you’re just driving around town. But on long trips that’s not possible. I’d love to see Chargers at every rest stop and at fast casual restaurants, where one could stop for 30 minutes, eat and fill up the car. Charge me for the electricity just like gas, I’d be fine as long as I can make long drives without

1st: The long charge time of EVs exasperates the too-few-charger issue. This is particularly problematic around holidays when people are traveling the most. It doesn’t really matter that you can charge in your garage if you can’t charge in public when you need to. There are always stories of Tesla superchargers

Have you met the average American?

Here in Finland less than a quarter of cars have AWD and it snows everywhere. It’s not an issue unless you are an idiot.

Hmm. I’m really looking forward to Lucid and Rivian bringing some competition and drive to the market. I just hope they don’t go the way of Fisker. Say what you want about Musk, but you have to admire how effectively he’s mobilized Tesla and kept their momentum up, even as a large(r) manufacturer.

I did this, and one time snorted the jello powder because I was ‘edgy’. 0/10, do not recommend. I’ve never had a drug problem, so maybe the feeling of sugar, gelatin and food colouring assaulting my mucus membranes at a young age kept me on the straight and narrow?

The gelatin powder in it had a different crunch.

This CD Panhard is essentially a continuation of Hanna’s racer, which I believe was a 1959 model. Bonnet left in ~(1962), which left Deutsch to develop yet another streamlined racer with Panhard power. He made five or six CD Dynas for competition, then another 170 or so street “Coach” models.

I’ll get it out of the way, Jeepy McJeepface.

The chainsaw is the one that gets me. These birbs are living hardware samplers. Also, thank you for linking the Attenbororough one - he’s delightful.
