Not a great trade economically, cheap ballistic missile fired and incredibly expensive defensive system and missile required to intercept just one. What happens when China salvo fires those by the hundreds and thousands? Can we protect every target from that kind of attack? South Korea? Japan? Taiwan? Guam? Those

It seems like China and many other powers are relying on relatively cheap SSMs to overcome our perceived superiority in air power. Their ability to put at risk both our bases in Guam, virtually all of Taiwan and much of Japan is a serious risk to our defense commitments in that area. It seems like we should be

Bigger target, bigger warhead. I know at some point that doesn’t really work. Not sure what that point is. And of course the whole reason for trying this is to develop a defense if such an object is projected to impact our planet.

Not really. Think about the size asteroid they’re talking about, 50 meters. There’s no doubt that a nuclear explosion could vaporize/destroy a target of that size. Now when you get into really large asteroids, miles across, that’s a different story.

Don’t forget that the Fins joined the Nazis once the Red Army was driven out of their country. It wasn’t unreasonable for them to do so given that they were conquered by the Soviets at the beginning of WWII. But they were very much on the losing end at the end of the war and had to agree to strict limits on their

Russia is trying its hardest to poke the US in every way they can think of short of an actual shooting war. It’s time for us to return the favor.

As with Canada, the Super Hornet, especially in its mature form, would be the most logical choice for Finland as conversion would be simplified to a large degree compared to its competitors.”

I think they’d be licking their chops at the idea of being able to face Hamas in a straight up fight. A nice opportunity to whittle down their numbers quite quickly.

I’m sure the Israelis would love to see Hamas try to fight straight up in a tank battle. Between armed drones, aircraft and of course the Israeli’s own tanks, a battle might last 5 minutes.

“most pickup truck owners don’t care what they need. They care only what they want.”

The Israelis aren’t the only ones who use such tactics. We’ve done the same thing with the B-1. One of the loudest planes I’ve ever hear and that was subsonic at an airshow. I’m betting one at supersonic speed would be VERY intimidating.

Well, the VERY successful 787 did actually catch on fire and was actually grounded for a little over 3 months while they came up with and tested an acceptable solution. Sales don’t seem to have been affected at all. Initial deliveries of the new A320Neo are being impacted by a prolonged start-up procedure on their P &

Look at ANY of today’s fighters and their prolonged development programs. Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, Grippen, etc. Developing the software for ANY aircraft these days is hideously difficult. The Chinese, Russians and Japanese have all had problems just developing smaller single aisle commercial aircraft. Those

Lol. Tell that to the Indians. Or, just look at FAR less complex civilian programs. Look how long it’s taking the Chinese, Russians and Japanese to to big small single aisle commercial aircraft.

That’s the problem, our current aircraft are already pretty old. I heard they’re looking to extend the service life from 9,000 to 18,000 hours. While that’s theoretically possible, it’s expensive to do and carries risks. A fair portion of the fleet was grounded a few years ago after one broke up mid-air. It turns out

I think there are a lot of countries who don’t think it’s all that hard to get into the fighter business. Not only is Japan developing this aircraft with a mind toward producing their own 5th Gen fighter, but South Korea and Turkey both are wanting to develop their own fighters as well. I would have thought that the

I know I’m in the minority, I’ve always love the styling of the XJ-S. I’d love to do a LS conversion and solve most of the reliability problems that way as well as making it a hoot to drive. There’s a company that makes a wiring harness that allows an LS to plug into the existing wiring and have all the guages work,

Either.

Against any opponent. It’s ALREADY US Air Force doctrine to supplement low numbers of F-22s with upgraded F-15 “Golden Eagles”. The F-35 simply doesn’t have the range, manueverability or weapons load to properly support the tip of the spear F-22s. Boeing has recently proposed upgrading F-15s to carry 16 AAMs like the

I’m afraid you’re misinformed. All of the technology I mentioned is ALREADY developed and in most cases is already in service. The US Air Force hasn’t bought any F-15s in 20 years or so but it’s still been developed and sold to customers around the world since then. And those F-15s are far more capable than our own.
