I worried about this a lot for a while, but in the end, it didn’t matter at all. I worked from this time until that time and then I was unemployed for a period. Actually, that’s exactly what I said in both scenarios. I happily took the next short-term throwaway gig that came along and after that, nobody cared a bit.
