Apparently there is a law specifying the terms for hiring non-UK actors in TV productions. The role in the show has to be a certain size. Since Brianna was only in (I think?) one episode of season two, her role was considered very minor for the season and they were required to hire a UK actress, not an American. They

Ha, I had to google where Otter Tooth’s story comes in to the books. I read all 8 kindle books in a row over four months, so they are all one book to me! I don’t even know the names of them.

Not sure if they made it clear on the show, but Brianna is actually an engineering student at MIT. She was only studying history because of her love for Frank, but she’s not really into it.

Eh, sort of. The author is a historical fiction writer, not a sci fi writer, so she’s not overly concerned with the details of time travel. That’s why the travelers can’t really change the future - too complicated!

I feel the same way. I’m in an Outlander facebook group and those people hate the show for completely different reasons than the people here hate it! I read the books and I seem to be the only person who enjoys when they change up the story because now it’s a new story for me too.

Not to spoil anything, but Otter Tooth is one of my favorite parts of the series! In the book there is a longer gap in time between Claire finding the skull (book 4) and learning Otter Tooth’s story (book 5), but I think the show wanted to make sure her finding the skull paid off in the same season. In the book, when

Agreed. I think it was important and relevant to point out at first, but it’s really disheartening to read reviews EVERY WEEK written by someone who pretty openly loathes the show they are reviewing and can’t seem to work around that. I think it’s also somewhat relevant to remember that Claire and Brianna are more

It’s pretty fleshed out in the books. Ian brings Claire Otter Tooth’s diary, so we know exactly what he wanted to do, as told from his perspective. They also meet Wendigo Donner about a year after that, who fills in even more of the story. They were part of the American Indian Movement, which was especially active

The book opens with everyone going to the annual gathering for Scots on Mount Helicon in North Carolina and 100 pages only covers like, five days. You are also introduced to a ton of new characters who only want to talk about the Regulators and it’s hard to remember who is who. It’s hard to feel that invested in the

In the books, Roger eventually makes a study about how the time travel stuff might work based on their experiences, so we get some conclusions but it’s still left pretty open ended.

Apparently it’s too complicated to train understudies in the more intricate blocking they need for a TV production when it’s a one night only show. The backup plan for all of the live Fox musicals is to air dress rehearsal footage if something happens to one of the actors, so they essentially “understudy” the entire

Do you think there is a connection to Us Weekly being owned by Trump-friendly American Media and the Jeff Bezos cover story? We know Trump and Bezos hate each other and none of the other mags thought the Bezos divorce was even worth mentioning on their covers...

The mags plaster those crazy numbers on the cover and then usually never reference them in the story inside. David Foster has an estimated net worth of $30-$80 million and Katherine McPhee’s is $8m, so maybe the $50m number just represents their combined fortune? Who knows.

What kind of corny-ass loser teens are wearing shirts & hats with a slogan representing the PRESIDENT? Maybe try being a fan of like, music or video games and not some bankruptcy-machine grandpa.

What do kids like about her? I don’t think I would have been a fan of someone who dresses and acts much younger than they are. Is everything targeted at kids these days exclusively about believing in oneself and not letting the haters get you down?

yeah, it does get a bit more random once the biggest emotional arcs of the entire series are resolved by the end of this book. Nothing ever compares to Claire going back to Jamie and Brianna finding her parents. The resolution of Roger’s current storyline is good, although it doesn’t seem like people who only watch

While there were many people who opposed slavery at the time, Jamie is a little early in his support for indigenous rights. Jamie also has the benefit of hindsight as provided by Claire. In the late 1760s, it was easier for white settlers to believe that the treaties were fair and at least the Brits were better at

From their perspective (NOT MINE), they are teaching kids that murder in all forms is wrong. Kids have a specific sense of right & wrong, don’t see nuances, don’t understand the racial/economic politics, are not taught about pregnancy by rape or maternal mortality and assume that if a “good” person needs help they

No, the pilot guy was fired. He’s in the movie as sort of the Cassandra of the operation and it doesn’t seem clear what his role was or why he was involved outside of his pilot skills. I think he just liked hanging around and they needed all the help they could get.

oh my god, yes. We had to pause the movie to talk through what this guy had just said so calmly. At least it made me grateful that I don’t have anyone in my life who has a “fuck you, I got mine” attitude.
