So I’ll be honest, this post made me somewhat angry, but probably not for the reasons the writer intended. Although considering this Jezebel, I’m assuming getting any reaction is the primary goal, so who knows.

This is not a well researched article based on fair comparisons (shocking for Jezebel, I know.)

There’s a hundred different angles you can look at this story from, but both the article and most of these comments aren’t really taking into account how this has actually played out. The IOC itself (not to unilaterally defend the IOC, they’re weird and fucked for any other number of reasons) seemingly wants to ban…

This is, indeed, a take. One that ignores pretty much everything about the differences between these two decisions except for race, sure, but still a take.

A new, young mail carrier thought it was mistreatment that they should deliver mail when it was raining outside. And honestly thought they should get to go home when it did. This from a mail carrier company in Sweden. So yeah, need more information about what type of mistreatment.

This is a bit ironic since it kiiiinda feels like it had to have been the investors and C-suite guys who forced this out earlier than any of the devs ever wanted.

Yeah, it’s because the women’s teams don’t play the men’s teams. If the USWNT were playing the Brazilian or Japanese men’s teams, they’d lose.

For the record, I do think the USSF should pay both teams equally. They have enough money to do so and it doesn’t seem like the revenue distribution is as gendered as, say, the NBA versus the WNBA.

Only it wasn’t. It placated them at every turn. Case in point:

“No, Leia says I can’t be in this movie.”

Don’t all the Opening crawls imply that “some time has passed and some things happened in that time”?

Speaking of, I feel cheated that Palpatine was resurrected by opening crawl and we never found out exactly how he survived. That was some bullshit.

The film over-corrected in reaction to the franchise’s worst fans and was a finale that had to retcon and undercut so many things about the saga to make itself work.

I interpreted her statement as “I spoke to some people who are of the race represented by the character and heard their concerns. I addressed those concerns and moved forward with intent.”

Personally, I see it as a non-issue because it’s a full prosthetic costume. I doubt people would take nearly so much issue with a white person wearing a big-headed mascot style costume of a black character.

Calling this black face feels stretching. She’s not using race to mock nor is she even using it as a costume. She’s accurately replicating a fictional character from a fictional place and doing so in a way that has no negative connotations what so ever.
