Except that's entirely false. These complaints do get us somewhere, as evidenced by the very article we are commenting on, along with how similar complaints have caused positive changes in how other fictional mediums treat female characters. Sure, a lot of the time video game characters have very little

Your point about it being aimed at juvenile men is a good one. When we talk about this, we often focus on the fact that the industry doesn't realize that there are female gamers, and that's worth paying attention to, but we forget the fact that a lot of gamers are older, too. I mean, I'm 30 and I find it kind of

"who honestly gives a shit if your character is a beefy dude with huge arms or a woman with a perfect body showing lots of skin, it's a game."

Ranting for half the day about something sure shows us all how much you don't care about it.

It depends on what you would consider to be "oversexualized". Most of what I hear of this argument is based upon what straight men think is sexy to people who are attracted to men, and I have never heard this brought up in a context outside of discussion on the objectification of female characters in video games,

You're an actual dinosaur, huh?

"We want everyone to feel kick-butt" vs

I am a first generation gamer. Started with pong and atari and still play as much as my teenage son.

Ughh.. Bleehhh. Sorry...I just threw up in my mouth, a little :/

No, it doesn't. And no, they don't.

It's going to continue, regardless. I'd rather have good people condemn such a bad thing, then try and pretend it's not happening.

Gamergate exists as Gamergate because of the harrassment and assholery that it brought upon the world. If it did not have those things, it would have disappeared in the blink of an eye, and no one would have cared.

Maybe he doesn't mention Gamergate, because it isn't important here. Important is, that whoever threatens someones lifes or harasses someone is at fault, no matter if this one considers himself to be part of Gamergate or not.

To put more nails and hammers in more hands to seal its coffin shut. I agree that in many cases, attention is not a good solution. But in this specific case, shedding more light on it does more to counter it than keeping it hidden.

He was talking about the events of the last few months, which we refer to in this headline as the "Gamergate saga". He wasn't referring to years of harassment. For good or ill, it's likely that that is how this fall—at least—will be referred to when people refer to it.

I'mma find time to play Diablo today because, these guys are alright.

Useless. "Harassment is bad, ok?" accomplishes nothing. GamerGate doesn't think it has a problem and won't think he's talking about it.

He didn't say "gamergate" because when there's a turd in the punchbowl, you don't have to call out the guy with the poopy ass by name
