I would have included The Dark Mod: Thief gameplay and universe in the Doom 3 engine. There are numerous great fan-made missions and a campaign is coming out soon!

It must have been incredibly hard to narrow the field to 12 mods, but I'm really surprised to see that The Dark Mod didn't make the cut. It's a crisp and perfectly executed mod and has been a perfect stop-gap while we've been waiting for a new Thief title.

Last year during the Cowboys/Falcons game, Al Michaels said "Love them or hate them—you just can't ignore the Cowboys." There's also Shadows of the Metal Age for Thief 2. Seeing as the two Thief games are pretty much unique (to me, #3 was too much of a departure), it's great being able to play what is essentially a completely new game set in the Thief universe, with the good old Thief gameplay.

Absolutely needs to include Fall From Heaven for Civilization 4. That mod felt like a full-blown expansion pack. If you've ever felt like what Civilization was missing was orcs and magic, then check it out.
