Split-bench, best of both worlds. My biggest problem with bench seats is there is (usually) no lumbar support, and absolutely no side bolsters. Get a little agressive going around a curve and you gotta hang onto the wheel for dear life. Shoulder belts have helped, but still.

Sadly, Pontiac didn’t have a performance G-body comparable to the sister divisions (unless you count the limited-production (1,225 built) homologation special, the 2+2, with a 305 ci V8 and a four-barrel carb. And Pontiac was supposedly GM’s performance division.  It would have been nice if they had continued the

And parked outdoors the whole time since then by the looks of it. I hated these even when they were new.  Asking price is about double what it ought to be.

Nobody wanted these when they were new.  Now that it’s 16 years old, this guy wants nearly $10-grand for it?  No Dice.

I’ve seen this done before. Back in the 70s, when rectangular sealed-beam headlights became DOT legal, some customizers used them in place of round headlights to significantly change the front-end styling. I don’t think it was common.

5th gen was uglier than this 6th gen design.

Super clean, but I think it’s only worth about $3500 tops. And I’m wondering why they have 1970's, fratzog- era Plymouth Valiant hubcaps on this car. The 80's hubcaps were flatter and had the Pentastar in the center.

It is also west of Tennessee,  and parts of it are further south than Kentucky.

I think it depends on what part of Missouri you’re from. If you are on the border with Kentucky, Arkansas, or Oklahoma, the culture there is Southern. On the other hand, if you live closer to Nebraska and Iowa, not so much.

When equipped with a four-speed stick like this car,...

My 1984 Pontiac J2000 Sunbird had the 1.8L engine (not turbocharged), but had a 5-speed stick. I’m reading here how terrible these cars were, but I loved mine. Only had it for about 18 months though. Sold it when I shipped out for military service.

Arkansas is the number one rice producing state in the US — producing more than the next three states combined. Also in Arkansas, the only active diamond mine in the US;

Nice Price!

Now playing

“And I swear the trunk had “power close” on it...was that a thing?”

Yes...yes it was.

They had that feature way back in the ‘50s.

Back in the 70s and 80s, I understood sunroof to mean the opening was opaque, usually a body colored metal panel, and had to be opened to allow in light or air. Moonroofs were glass, and allow light in at all times (but they usually have an interior shade).  You don’t see the metal “sunroof” much anymore.

These were bottom of the line, budget cars back in the 70s. This needs to be in much better condition to be worth $8000. The column shift automatic isn’t helping its case any either.

Update:  I just looked around at what people are asking for these -- it’s nuts.  This one is priced pretty low compared to similar cars

Good candidate for an LS swap and some fat wheels

It has 4-doors and a trunk.  Keep in mind that back in those days a “trunk” was literally a steamer trunk strapped onto the back end of the vehicle.

“If your mind is made up to go Tesla, and cant wait, then this is a pretty good deal.”

This is exactly what I was thinking. I was hesitant but the price is close enough that I went nice price, of course only for a buyer in the specific group you mentioned.

Astra, isn’t that an Opel?
Did you know that Pontiac’s sister to the Chevy Vega was called Astre (with an “e”)?
