And there you have the problem with “ironic racism.” You may be intending to make fun of “actual racists,” but to the person on the receiving end of your comments, it can be no different than if they’d gotten those same comments from an actual redneck. I mean, honestly, what is the difference? Whether you’re mocking

I definitely think there could be a further reveal with Vicky that she is pulling off an even deeper con, sort of like on Orphan Black where a couple times a clone sister impersonated another clone, impersonating another clone. She is a demon pretending to be a nice girl next door—but maybe under that she is something

Unless Vicki doesn’t care about the four humans because she’s actually there to torture Michael, which is what she’s doing.

We also saw a scene where it looked like Tahani was sitting in on the Ethics lessons?? (When Eleanor said she had to kick everyone out b/c of her “soul mate” who wrote her a 3hr spoken word jazz opera.) I wonder how that happened...

That’s equally true of Chidi.

The showrunners talked about reading various philosophical works before making the show, so hopefully there is a real plan :)

That said, I think its as close to cannon as possible that the show is saying the concept of “soulmates” is bupkis.

And NOW combine all THAT with the fact that Vicki was working hard on an Australian accent and was pissed off she never got to use it! Hmmmm

I might give this series too much credit but various moral, philosophical and psychological aspects has have been popping explicitly and less explicitly during the first season.
I can’t name them all (it’s been too long since college), but it is noticeable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the erasure of their selves ties

I don’t think Michael actually knows as much about these four, or about humans generally, as he thinks. He hates humans. He sees the bad side of people, but not the potential for growth. So I don’t know that he was ever actually right that they would torture each other for ever.

I suspect that the one time Tahani went was also the time she was Eleanor’s soulmate, and so she was in on it much earlier on.

Yes, I was sorta assuming Michael will merge / restore all their memories next week as they plot to maybe overtake the afterlife and create their own thing.

that would be wonderful

I also rewatched S1 recently and did not expect Jason’s boogie board theft story to get a follow up. Next season will we find out what happened after the tires were slashed?

Memory restoration would be cool. I like learning more about the characters, but I would rather watch their relationships continue developing from where they ended up the first attempt, since I liked them.

The main thing that offsets that, for me, is the way the different iterations of the scenario reveal more facets about these characters.

And I would not be surprised if their memories of all the iterations get restored at some point.

Yeah I agree, but Tahani-Eleanor just in this episode seeming so remote was irksome—and why would Tahani have only been to Mindy’s once, while Chidi was “usually in the mix”?

It went a little heavy on the antagonistic aspects of their relationship and too light on Eleanor calling her hot.

The golden rule in The Good Place writers’ room seems to be “Never put off until next episode, that which you can do this episode.”

I think it was one of the comments on this site that predicted that Michael would team up with the four at the end of this season. Who knew Mike Schur and the gang blew this show up so early in the season. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
