Yeah, this writer desperately needs to establish boundaries. Hugging your child during a temper tantrum = positive reinforcement for the meltdown, and encourages the child to melt down MORE. It’s pretty basic operant conditioning, and it baffles me that so many parents make this mistake.

I’m amazed by all the replies... apparently not many people here have ever dealt with textured walls. The issue why you are seeing the patch, is that whoever patched this, failed to texture afterwards. Cutting out the patch, and trying to fix this with only paint... will never be successful. I would suggest first…

Looks like you’ve got a textured wall there. My advice would be to sand that old patch smooth, put on some fresh joint compound mixed with a tiny bit of water to loosen it, then try dabbing it with a texturing sponge to make a pattern that will match the existing wall. When it dries, repaint the area to match.

Cut out the old spot. Put in a new sheet of rock to fit in there. Tape the edges and then use a 12” knife to feather it out well into the texture and into the patch. Sand and apply a second coat. Sand again. Use a wet sponge to feather the edge of the patch and the existing knockdown texture. Go to Sherwin…

I would recommend just starting fresh. Cut out the poorly patched section and redo it yourself. This would be the most seamless way to fix it IMO.
