Gixmodo changed the picture. When I first read the article, they had a pic of a jailbroken, Verizon iPhone on wifi showing 4G which would be impossible for all 3 reasons. I thought the article was a big joke because it was the first article I read about it and because they showed a fake picture.

I'm curious to know if it will always display 4G from now on, or it will still be able to distinguish between the HSPA+ network that it is claiming to be 4G, vs the other less speedy networks in slower coverage areas and still show 3G when it is not picking up an HSPA+ signal.

upon further investigation, I saw many other sources that were consistent with this article. But when I read this, I was just going on the information and pictures in this article alone, which does have many inconsistencies that would lead one to believe it's bullshit.

In case you haven't noticed, the phone Jailbroken and it is on WiFi. When the phone is on Wifi, it either shows the WiFi icon (like in this picture) instead of the 3G or "E" (Edge) logo. These are mutually exclusive. It will never show both the cell network logo and the wifi logo at the same time.

I'm a huge fan of the OBDII iPhone apps. Rev II works great with a Kiwi Wifi OBDII plug. It shows realtime selectable information on your iPhone including one big analog gauge and four other parameters in the corner of each screen. However, Rev II hasn't seen an update in years. I used it on my old iPhone 3G.
