My wife and I moved from a major metro area in the US to a small city in Canada 6 years ago. Best decision we ever made. It's true you can't completely get away from America up here (it's most Canadians' favorite topic of discussion and favorite target of derision), but you feel it less.

Would it kill ya to play a little Foghat?

Jim Shepard is worth reading. "Like You'd Understand Anyway" and "You Think That's Bad" are two of his best collections. Heartbreaking but often funny stories, sometimes set around historical events, settings, or people (e.g. one about the Chernobyl disaster, another about a Roman Legionnaire guarding Hadrian's Wall)

First thing I thought while reading the article was, "This is like 'Thrilling Tales' for sci-fi." I see that it's been 13 years since it was published, so maybe it's been forgotten.

*You're* stupidly over-stuffed, fatty!

I remember that great Defenders issue that introduced Frog-Man (and the Walrus).

I have a similar problem. My brain always reads Nicolas Winding Refn as "Nicolas Effin' Wingding."

The mandatory drug testing does seem a bit extreme. They're just comments. How lucid must we be?

Pre-teens love Jessica Tandy!

Yeah, I think that was much more common in the days before home video. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark in the theatre 4 or 5 times (because I was 12 and it was fucking Raiders of the Lost Ark). That seems crazy now, but when it eventually came to the only video store in town, there was a 3-month-long waiting list to

You are correct, sir!

He used it at least twice in the '60s: once with Reed, and again with Daredevil. And Byrne had him do it again in the '80s. But you're right that it's probably the only nontechnological power he has. I guess it's black magic? I don't remember the explanation, but he can do it even when he's paralyzed…

"Go to her door. Beg like a human."

I agree. I thought "Prometheus" was really Carter's attempt to write a Darin-Morgan-style episode. Not bad, but not his best or a series best.

Darin Morgan played Flukeman, played Eddie in "Small Potatoes," and wrote most of the best episodes. But Chris Carter wrote "Postmodern Prometheus."

Thanks, Obama!

Aw man, they got my girl too.

I can't believe Robot Bigfoot hasn't been rebooted yet. He's long overdue for a comeback.

You're right: A Scanner Darkly is a much better book. I read 10 PKD novels this year, and Ubik was the one I liked the least. Not bad, but far from his best.

Bernie Liederkranz?
