I honestly think violators are the EXCEPTION, not the rule. It just seems so slippery slope to me to assume that they all are shady and start yelling BOYCOTT SALONS!

It reminds me of way back when I was told not to eat at restaurants with Mexicans working as dishwashers because they were most likely illegals smuggled

Oh, I always recommend them. Even if it means longer wait times for me. :) Ha!

Here in California, salons and spas get inspected and certified for health and safety. I wonder if that happens in New York? Also, our Labor department takes violations very seriously. One anonymous tip, and they do eventually look into it.

They already have! That’s how I know their story.

The problem lies in painting ALL low cost nail salons with the same broad brush. They (and I) think some kind of twisted friendly-fire racism will happen, in that people who want to avoid the crap/abusive salons with mostly Asian employees will also pass up totally

I have gotten to know the owners of my nail salon, and they are terrified this will be an end to their livelihood. The focus should be on pressuring the regulatory agencies, and NOT on boycotting!

I remember saying something like that to my Grandma’s racist neighbor who LOOOOVED to tan.

Totally my story! I was the only one who just didn’t enjoy laying out in the sun. I suspect my adhd had a big role in it. I was teased about my blazingly white legs, but once I accepted my lilly whiteness, I just didn’t care anymore!

Is it possible that this reviewer is just not all that good? I know here in Sacramento there was a food writer for a while that I would NOT want to have review my restaurant AT ALL, regardless of his opinion. He was just ignorant and would criticize the stupidest shit like if there was a noisy table seated next to

I don’t think this person is saying race doesn’t exist. My interpretation is that he/she is wishing for a time when it’s irrelevant, and that it is dumb that it still gets factored in with how we treat each other.

Nothing wrong with that sentiment.

Not that this is your actual point, but I thought it might be helpful for someone else considering fostering that when you foster kittens, you have to keep them completely separated from your resident cats. :)

I was told by Mexican Best Friend’s mom that guac was to cool your mouth off if you got too spicy hot of a bite of the other foods.

Her guac never had hot peppers. It was avocado, cumin, chili, garlic, salt and pepper. Still my favorite guac recipe ever.

I work in rescue, and I’m giving you internet stranger permission to do whatever you need to do. There are thousands of actually sweet, awesome kitties being euthanized while this ungrateful (and frankly, hopeless) one continues to use your resources.

I would also recommend that you sign up as a foster home BEFORE you

I miss playing D&D with my dorks. :(

They get around it with the whole “servers carry their own bank” angle. :/

I’m just finishing up my treatment from my diagnosis in August. YES, Chemo is hard, but so is what you are going through. My husband did his best, but I could see it was starting to fray him too, and we had a pretty good support system.

The other commenters are right - take all the help. Ask for meals. Ask for

That’s hilarious and logical if you squint and tilt your head a bit.

If I could draw, I’d make the PECKERS logo for you. You know how the owl eyes substitute for the bewbs? PECKERS would show a Woodpecker in profile with the beak standing in.

Tallywackers?? The obvious counterpart to HOOTERS is PECKERS!

I don't mean to sound all woo-woo on you, but isn't the wearer's intent part of the equation? I live in a remarkably culturally diverse area, like I said, and I realize I'm very lucky because I just see a lot more "celebration" of culture than anything that would be considered appropriation. Not to say it doesn't

If you just didn't make your dances so fun. I'm sure this is all your fault somehow.

I guess my disconnect stems from the fact that for most of my life as a white person (Portuguese, actually) in Northern California, I have been invited and encouraged to participate in other cultures by those very people. I think I have not witnessed the things you describe, so it's hard for me to wrap my mind around.
