I had to google several of the jokes referred to in this article to figure out what alternate meanings people were reading into them, because the article isn’t super clear about any of it. 

To be fair, a lot - a LOT - of “Simpsons” jokes are references to things.

Also, “The Simpsons” broke at a time where a lot - a LOT - of humor was increasingly based in references to things.

The real takeaway here is that when it comes to jokes, delivery is more important than writing. Find the right rhythm for a punchline and anything sounds funny. Or more to the point, if it SOUNDS like a joke, SOMEONE will laugh.

The orange asshole has normalized it. He started early on and has kept doing so, even when we started to see the numbers of deaths leveling out, claiming that it’s really no big deal and has stuck to that even now, at least until Nov 4, now he’s switched to crying about his loss and nothing else.

Every day this month so far, over 2,000 people have died of COVID in the US. It’s a small sample size, but you know what else kills 2,000 Americans a day? Nothing. Not heart disease. Not cancer. Nothing.

This is not QUITE as good as the Fox News lawyers straight up arguing - in court - that Tucker Carlson doesn’t broadcast the news, and you shouldn’t expect “truth” from him ... but it’s pretty darned close.
