“Economically anxious” Germans elevated Hitler to power too. Go bleed your heart for them, if you wish. Any progressive movement that is willing to sacrifice those who cannot defend themselves in favor of populist rhetoric is one that lacks a soul.

Honestly I don’t see it as a chicken and egg thing. Only 31% of white men voted for Hillary. Liberals don’t need to refocus on whites, they need to double down on being a party with actual principles and progressive values. Focusing on racist, sexist xenophobes with “economic anxiety” won’t bring anyone in, it’ll push…
And what’s your solution, o smartsome one? How can liberals reach out to Trump voters, in a way that won’t do actual harm to marginalized people?
The problem really isn’t just the economic worries, though. Those people LOVE the hatefulness. They want the racism, the sexism, the homophobia, and the xenophobia. They are out of their cages and loving it. They love it so much that they are willing to screw themselves over to have it.
It’s hilarious how economic anxiety is only a thing when it’s felt by white men, and can be used to explain every social horror that white men and women support: sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.

Again, that’s a nice idea with little to back it up. These are women who voted for an open misogynist. What are liberals going to offer them? How do we sell them on women’s rights? You’re still ignoring the central tenet of my rejection of your logic, which is that you want to “focus” on issues that affect middle…
Like, negative three million votes in the minority? And, your saying would imply that the hole that is being dug is “support for marginalized people”. If you think that rejecting that, or deprioritizing it, or focusing away from it, or any other nice little euphemism, isn’t gonna come with steep losses from…
If the Left doesn’t focus on issues that affect LGBTQ and women, then those issues will go backwards and people will die. I don’t know how else to say that.
I mean I never liked Bernie and I talked my girlfriend out of getting on the Bernie train. I felt bad at the time, but then he had the nerve to start talking shit about “identity politics” after the election and I was like, yup, douchebag white bro who claims to be woke yet throws us under the bus yet again.
Which then brings us back to where we started. I’m unwilling to support a party that either ignores or actively works to hurt queer people or women. And, I think you’ll find, so are many other folks. It’s all well and good to talk platitudes about “focusing” on economic issues, but to us that sounds like white guys…
Exactly. This person is talking about “focusing” on economic issues while ignoring the fact that only through constant effort do we maintain the progress we’ve made on women’s rights, civil rights, queer rights, etc.
Also thrice-married with 5 kids from those various marriages.
SEE: SARAH PALIN and the legions of horny white Republican men who voted for her.
Also make the woman a serial sexual predator, financial scofflaw, and all-around bigoted asshole.
Yep, it’s gaslighting, telling women that their experiences don’t really exist.
this!! actually, i wonder if rosanne is a good female equivalent. beacause not only is the age and appearance a factor, it’s how long they’ve been wind bagging. a new woman’s face acting like this out of the gate could be seen as “refreshing” she’s been around for a while and people are tired of listening to her. i…
My very first year at my current job, I was repeatedly told by my lead that I was doing well, maintaining the course, doing as expected, involved in a lot of things, and so on. Given this feedback, I fully expected to get some sort of reward at the end of the year.
Especially one with eyes that look like gross little pink buttholes when they squint, which is always.
Except that, as a woman, everything I’ve ever experienced in the workplace tells me the exact opposite.
