It sounded like something out of that episode of Girls where Hannah's supposed to go out and "have sex" or "do a bunch of coke" and then write about it. That show touches on a lot of the same self-indulgent issues, but it actually manages to be funny something, instead of exclusively self-indulgent.

Oh, I know many a 35-year-old (bougie and seemingly professional, the lot of them) who has no problem spouting things like this whatsoever. Be glad that you've managed to surround yourself with a different sort of person.

The conventional advice is that you leave a bare minimum tip and ask to speak to the manager. But personally, this seems far more damaging to me. I'd rather lose a few dollars in tips than potentially lose my job. It would take an extreme level of disrespect and rudeness from a server for me to tattle-tale on them.
