Sometimes criminal defendants simply refuse to make logical decisions about pleas.  I’ve heard so many stories from my crim defense friends of people vigorously refusing to do things like plea out and take community service or probation, only to end up at trail with a felony conviction.

Sanders ain’t perfect, he’s old, and sometimes he doesn’t strike the perfect tone on race. But I would rather an imperfect tone with good policy, then a perfect tone, with regressive policies that favor the wealthy and powerful.

It’s always easier to tear into someone who is 99% on your side and you know will be sympathetic than it is to stand up to and confront those that actually don’t give a shit about you.
