I was in high school in Snellville in the late 90s, and I’m going to guess it depended on the teacher. Odds are the information was somewhere in the textbooks, but you know most students only do the assigned readings (if that). I know for certain that the only historical field trips we took were to some colonial town

Sometimes, as floor manager, I have to snap my fingers at the news anchors because their mics are open and I can’t talk, and I always feel so bad that I apologize during the break. Even though it’s the recommended way to get their attention. Just - snapping fingers is so RUDE.

I think, since they were married before the article was written, they had to refer to her by her married name. I could be wrong, though.

Went to public school in Gwinnett County, right near Stone Mountain. Our textbooks did have Civil War information, but the Civil Rights sections sort of glossed over the “rebel flag”. We didn’t see any of those images of the flag being used against protestors, or by the KKK, and we certainly weren’t told the history

Maybe not in school, but I was already hearing about “The Act of Northern Aggression” (no kidding) and the evils of the Civil Rights movement before I was in kindergarten. They start in with the attempted brainwashing at a young age in pro-Confederate households. For me, it didn’t take - but it did for a lot of my

It was better than I expected, but I expected it to be unwatchable. And I was stuck watching it at a friend’s house - on my own, I’d have switched it off. Efron does look really good in it, though.

I don’t know. That might be a little over the top.

I know that if you’d asked me at age 6 if my mother was a racist bigot, I wouldn’t have really understood what you were asking other than if she was a bad person, and I’d have said, “No”. As an adult, though - all of her lessons about being good and fair and empathetic to others fall short, because the reality of her

We covered this story (briefly) at the station where I work. They opted not to play the video at all, because bleeping it would indicate support for the accusation, and not bleeping it could get complaints from idiot viewers. I still don’t know why we aired it in the first place, though.

People who make this argument have no concept of consent.

I’m sure you’ll still be able to find all the confederate flag merch you want at your local flea market. You know the booth - the cheap, screen-print tee shirts; the thin, cheaply-made flags; the belt-buckles; and the stickers.

LOL, not really, no.

Just get some D&D books. According to my parents, those were from THE DEVIL. I’d love to say they left it in the 80s, but my mother still thinks it’s evil.

Same in Georgia, but not in Florida.

Jensen Ackles and Scarlett Johansson.

There is a difference. An affiliate is owned by a media company like Cox, Gannett, or Hearst. An owned-and-operated is owned by Fox Television Stations. I suppose it could be considered an affiliate in the colloquial sense, but there is a clear distinction in the broadcasting industry.

It’s between 15 and 20 mph in Florida.

One one hand, thanks for recognizing the difference between an affiliate and FOX News. On the other, KRIV is an O&O (owned-and-operated), not an affiliate.

There was something about the beginning of this trailer that made me think of “There Will Come Soft Rains”.

Yeah, in my women’s/gender studies classes, we always used LGBTQQI, for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, and Intersex. Which is fairly inclusive, but confuses a lot of people.
