Nathan Grayson and Brian Ashcraft are by far the weakest writers on Kotaku.
Ashcraft has been like this for a while now and the only conclusion is that he stopped giving a fuck about 8 years ago.

I inherited the mindset from my grandfather. Current car is an ‘05 LR3 with about 135K on it. I still love the thing.  It’s mostly been very good to own, but some years I feel like someone who refuses to leave an abusive partner.

Ethanol increases the octane rating, so your engine requiring pure gas has nothing to do with octane.

Drivers behaving like that are definitely a minority, but it isn’t that small here in MA. I do agree that I do have quite a bit of confirmation-bias here. I feel like there are a lot of idiots, so I notice idiots a lot more than non-idiots. Does it make me feel superior to those idiots? Probably.

Negative, it supports my thesis that most people are ignorant about the world around them. It’s the same people that won’t think about whether they have DRL’s or automatic headlights, or plan for their upcoming exit instead of cutting across 3 lanes of traffic at the last moment.

It surprises you that people don’t understand Octane? We’re talking about the same population that filled trashbags with gasoline in their trunks because a pipeline shut down for a few days. Think about the most average person you know, then remember that roughly half the people buying gas are dumber than that person. 

I assume that is 95 RON, which isn’t the same as 95 octane in the US. It equates to about 91 octane, placing it hi-mid to low-premium.
