I read a recent utilities report cited on an EV website said that the utilities in EV-heavy municipalities had shown no great increase in system loads.
..... adding more safety features simply makes people drive more careless.

An option is to buy a 4-5 year old Honda Civic & a 3-4 year-old 100-mile range EV, combined for $25k-$30k, in lieu of buying a $30-$40k single new vehicle.

We have a ~90-95 mile EV in the household fleet that my wife uses as a DD to work & taking 2 children to school. She uses this in lieu of using the 15-16mpg City minivan for daily errands.
No garage here; EV parked in the open for 3.5 years now, in rain, Sun, hot, cold, snow. No charging issues.
3.5 year EV owner here; no issues with home charging or remembering to plug in, especially as we plug in each time we arrive home.

Mazda 5 was a safety nightmare?
Mine was ‘07 Mazda 5 Sport with 5-speed manual transmission was literally bullet-proof for nearly 200k miles - and still on the original clutch when Bambi opted to commit suicide.
The Mazda 5 failed due to lack of marketing & dealership sales-dork support.
