Tahani reminds me of Emma Woodhouse from the Jane Austen book. She tries too hard, and can be selfish. But at her core is a big heart and a desire to be whole. To me that's endearing and makes her very emotionally compelling character.

but it didn't happen to this particular woman. if it had been a part of Turner's story, put it in the movie. But Parker wanted to raise the drama for Turner and, like most clueless male writers, thought raping the wife would be the best way to do it. It's gross, unnecessary, and troubling considering the circumstances.

I was considering seeing this movie because I like most of the cast. But I can't stomach the idea of a rapist adding in a fictional rape into a movie. I mean, rape Is already a cheap way to "add stakes" to a man's journey even without Nate Parker and the other one being rapists themselves
