Good question, actually. I’m not as tall as your gf, but am taller than average.

Wonder how well this would work with deaf people that can speak. I played with a friend’s Iphone, and the Siri was able to understand only about half of what I said, which was better than I expected, now I think about it. I do have some trouble with some letters/sounds, though.
I don’t think the author claimed the sequoia are the oldest in the region.
photoshop?
Disagree. Go to a bible-thumping part of the country and ask them what they think of DnD.
It happens even now. An acquaintance of mine (we had mutual friends) was a deeply religious yet intelligent man, and while he was curious about the game, he was afraid to start playing because he didn’t want to “invite the devil into his life.” His words.
I was thinking of the bathroom motion sensor when I wrote that, yep.
Motion sensors definitely is a viable option. Detect movement, turn streetlights immediately before, above and after. If I remember right, a couple cities were experimenting with using that for a couple highways.
I suspect that people who grew up with media hammering this message, “nighttime streets are not safe!” (and variations thereof), will resist any changes to their street lights. My baby-boomer parents, for instance...haha. They’re probably an extreme example of this. They’re so nervous about things that go bump in the…
You didn’t go far enough then.
Yeah, I know Greenland isn’t neutral - that was the wrong word, but I couldn’t think of the right one. A place with minimal political problems, where the government wouldn’t mind leasing or ceding the land out. It could work somewhat like how embassy properties are set up.
As I said, there are logistics to be worked out. The IOC could build their own buildings in this scenario so the city wouldn’t be burdened with sheltering people, and I’m assuming they’d pitch in on improving the airport so that it could handle the traffic. As I said, again, it’d be a massive undertaking, but done…
A Gateway 2000.
I know that there are problems with this ideas, and that solving the logistics of implementing this would be a massive undertaking. That said:
Neutral is probably the wrong word, but I couldn’t think of the right one. Someplace isolated, with minimal political problems, where the country’s government won’t mind ceding land to IOC for a fee.
I had a similar idea, except: IOC should purchase a neutral land and build permanent structures there. Host the Olympics there. Greenland for winter, and ?? for summers. Take this whole bidding process out of the play, and form their own marketing program to handle the commercial aspects (sponsors, commercials, ad…
No, not exactly. Parentheses within a statement usually denotes an aside or a tangential-but-related thought.
Why doesn’t IOC just buy some neutral/unclaimed land that fit their needs and build permanent structures there? I’m sure the initial expenses would be enormous, but after that, it’d be just maintenance and upkeep, which could be paid for by selling advertising space and other means.
Maybe the “gist” is good enough for you. As someone who has spent a lifetime just getting the “gist”, I’m tired of it. I want to know what’s being said with accuracy, damnit!
Not everyone can view videos. And there are the small minority who are deaf and cannot follow along with the audio. Youtube’s voice-to-text software isn’t very good. So...
