I just heard on a podcast by Mike Rowe that the thawing with the Soviets was all because Boris Yeltsin went grocery shopping in Texas while on a diplomatic trip to the US and saw how many flavors of pudding pops we had over here. And Yeltsin made Gorbachev see that they were fucked because if even the poorest among us…
Yeah, it’s wild to think that there could be boomers just silently chilling in Puget Sound. If the fast ferry ends up happening, who knows, I might move to literal ground zero.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world:
if you compare past video with current, he really does seem to have gone downhill. he was never a brilliant or thoughtful or articulate person, but it’s quite clear that his faculties are leaving him.
You left out Hilary. Gotta work that in there, and then something about feeling a burn of some kind that I don’t fully understand.
Just so we can get it out of the way and move on to other commentary:
Something something something liberals, politics on my car site, keep your politics to yourself, liberal media, MAGA, I’m unsubscribing from Jalopnik, give him a chance, but whataboutwhenObama..., blah blah blah etc
...and he just confirmed the intel came from Israel. Good grief...
I went outside to grab the paper this morning and rant into a Trump voting neighbor. I smiled as I picked up the paper and said “It’s tough to keep up with everything these days”, and he replied “I don’t even want to know”.
In high school I was obsessed with grunge. Nirvana was this gateway band into a whole slew of angsty, sludge fueled goodness, and Soundgarden was especially huge for me. I remember one day in particular, I had bought two albums that became instant classics for me and I still hold dear- Radiohead’s OK Computer and…
I did also (a 1985 - the previous owner gave me the Official Audi Apology and Explanations Video along with it). An absolute joy to drive, especially on the windy uphill on my way home from work; tried to do those maneuvers with the Volvo wagon that succeeded it and was in for a rude awakening. It developed, as my…
I had a 91 200t, but the problems with this car aren’t the engine, which is darned near bulletproof, however without the turbo it’ll be as slow as molasses. The problems are every other part of the car, and that was when Audi was making parts for them. They stopped about 10 years ago, dropped most from the catalog.…
Unintended acceleration is a cp
My Dad had one and it was great car, from my perspective. So when I told him I was going to pick one up years later, his response was; “NOOOOOOO”!!! Apparently not that great, as when these things start to fall apart, they really fall apart.
I had an ‘88 80 in ‘95. Constantly broke down, often electrical Gremlins. The kind where all your lights, interior and exterior, turn off until you hit the steering wheel *just* right.
that’s how my b5 avant was... a blast to drive but everyday you think about something going wrong or new surprises coming up. And mine was a super-clean, one owner with the more reliable v6, driven scarcely by an older lady. I’ve owned sixteen cars never had to replace a clutch on any of them. The Audi ate two somehow…
If it made it this long as a running, driving, registered car, it’s probably one of the better ones.
Yep. Short list of repeat headaches I recall:
Yeah, and not to mention the fact that it’s going to be up for a new timing belt in the near future. While it’s not a bad wagon, there’s just so many better cars to be had at this price.
