If it’s any consolation, it’s not like Boeing moved any work to St Louis. They bought the St Louis company that was already building the Hornets, McDonnell-Douglas. And they *did* shut down the airliner work that the former McDonnell-Douglas had been doing, as it competed with the stuff they were doing in Seattle.

Now you know of those of us in Detroit feel. :-)

Agreed. Pre-1980, anything less than 50-series rubber kinda looks off to me (well, save for crazy race cars).

If I recall correctly, these had a reputation for finicky driveability even when new, and the passage of 30 years probably hasn’t improved anything. The next model year, with electronically controlled port fuel injection, was supposed to be better, but I’ll pass on the carbureted ones.
