I have a long inseam for my size, and though I won't pay full price and only shop online at a handful of stores or thrift, I've found some dependable places for longer pants.

My husband works for an urban university with a very multicultural student body that includes many people with South Asians and Middle Eastern heritage. On 9/11, it closed down for a couple of days. When it reopened on 9/13, the first casualty was a Sikh undergraduate who got the shit beaten out of him because of

I'm surprised she didn't demand a job for a trailing spouse.

Oh, for heaven's sake—hiring in academia doesn't work like finance. Why not compare clinical research to real estate? You can't extrapolate across industries and professions. This post should have been written by someone who understands the context, or at least read through the comments after the Chronicle article and

Given the job market for new PhDs, I assure you that there are a multitude of highly qualified female candidates. Also, this is a tenure track position—they're not going to hire someone "young and unpublished." Those people are hired as one-year appointments.

Presumably the start date for the appointment was for Fall 2014. She wants to push her start date to 2015. Who's supposed to pick up the classes she was to teach? Humanities departments at small, liberal arts colleges don't tend to have huge teaching staffs, and they don't have masses of grad students who can step in

Oh dear, I hate to be that person, but: "Less books about women..."? No. "Fewer books about women...".

Schadenfreude to you too.

The anesthesia is the most dangerous part of any surgery. What kind of vet would allow an animal to remain under general anesthesia a moment longer than necessary? This must be some sort of ethics violation.

I had mine 10 years ago. They haven't grown back!

Oldster (57) here, who had internet access in the mid-1980s when I was in grad school. I used it for email and subscribe to listservs. Sure, it was text-based 30 years ago in pre-WWW days, but it existed.

Us wacky old folks, all 10 percent of whom are idiots who can't identify a transfer protocol. Huh. I do occasional presentations at community colleges, and I suspect 30 percent of the 20 year old students couldn't tell you what http is an acronym for.

Umm, I'm not FieryAntidote, although this came as a reply to me. You're right, I don't teach K-12. I don't have the innate talent, optimism, and stamina to do it well, and the world's already full of crappy teachers. But not having TED certification doesn't mean that I lack critical thinking skills, just as I don't

Eeek! Extra asterisk after 2nd quote.

My apologies—you're right about my comment speculating that you taught at a charter school. I should have proofed before posting. I corrected it during the few minutes comments can be edited—-we overlapped.

It's called "tenure" in K-12 in Michigan. Because I was curious, I also Googled "tenure K-12 states." The first page of results showed half a dozen states that use the term and mentioned it in the first sentence of the result.

I'm not impressed by your aptitude if you think it's acceptable to announce that a
