I’ve been saying this since the third season. Martin wants the story to have the scope of history, and that’s great for actual history, but after a while makes for shitty narrative fiction because all the characters we care about will eventually disperse and die.
I have hope that they will be able to fix it simply because the screenwriters are no longer tied to the book’s plot. Also, they need to throw the audience a bone an have something good happen to the characters we’re invested in. Sansa needs to be vindicated, the remaining wolves need to get revenge, or at the very…
Yeah it’s very possible this could be fixed! But for the time being it sucks.
This is what has happened in the books as well- but I think there’s a wider purpose. Martin has said that he always intended to reunite characters after drawing them apart to allow them to grow individually.
The narrative of the shrill, “dramatic,” slightly unhinged woman is so pervasive that the media tries to shoe-horn any woman who dares show a shred of disappointment or annoyance even for a perfectly understandable reason.
That reminds me: follow Jezebel on Instagram.
As a BYU graduate, I’d like to personally say, go fuck yourself.
Seems like if you hit a brick wall, you start by talking with the media, whether it be social (their Facebook wall) or other. That usually gets them to care.
A lot of my high school friends went to BYU. One girl, was NHS and top of her class in high school. BYU found out she may have hooked up with her boyfriend, while on break and out of the state. They suspended her and then put her on probation. They shamed her both at school and at home.
I mean we are talking about a college named after a man who believed black people are subhuman while also holding an undetermined level of complacency in the mass murder of 100-200 people.
My husband’s cousin graduated from BYU recently, and he’s been outspokenly angry about these policies. Whereupon, someone smugly told him that “BYU has the lowest reported incidence of sexual assaults in the country.”
I just wanted to say that this piece was very well done, Stassa. I read a couple of articles about the BYU rapes on other sites, and I was anticipating the Jezebel blog that I knew would come. I think Jezebel is doing really excellent work in covering this very important topic. People need to know what is happening,…
Also, religious schools should get zero government money. Nothing.
Cult folk who believe in magical diapers and who one day will be god of their own planet; who say jesus visited the U.S.; who for most of their history says black folk could only go to heaven as a servant of whites; who view more porn per than any other state; who condemn hot liquid, except hot chocolate?; says says…
They've had similar problems at the Air Force Academy with the Honor Code. I can't remember her name, but there is an officer who recently finally got her degree from the Academy. She was sexually assaulted, and a few weeks before graduation was found to be guilty of an honor violation. If I remember correctly, her…
I starred this out of horror, not because I “like” what your friend and her sisters went through.
BYU needs to be investigated and shut down by the federal government using Title IX. NOW.
That’s...ugh. So sorry for your friend and her sisters. I hope that man dies a horrible, painful death.
I had a friend who was born into Mormonism, her father was some important Mormon Church official in California. He raped all five of his daughters starting at age 11 until their early-20's, he also let his friends. The church encouraged, coherced the girls to take no action later in life. Just saying... This shit…
