But what if something goes wrong?

Your mom sounds cool.

I don't want to infer too much from the story because I don't trust the narrator. But I think it's been demonstrated that Jimmy and Chuck's father is generous to a huge fault. And I don't think it's too much of a stretch to imagine that their mother was allowing Jimmy to take advantage of her good nature. That's what

Yeah, no tanks to that!

This phrase is used constantly in my house. It has so many applications.

When I started watching this show, back in the beginning, I thought Dylan was the most boring, unnecessary character. Max has totally won me over. His awkward conversations with Norma are such a great part of the show. I loved him pointing out the weirdness of Norma hiding her marriage from Norman. Like, why do we

Interesting observations. I'll have to keep my eye out for your theory in the coming episodes.

I didn't hear that there was a fight or that their mother left at any particular time. Chuck said there was "a mess to clean up" but there wasn't any explanation. Jimmy didn't remember the incident as anything but amusing. If it had really been a disaster, would he have brought it up? So I tried to filter it through

He made so many callbacks to Jimmy in this episode. The jazz hands, the rushing off to get a scheme together and assemble the pieces. Nobody said those McGill brothers were lazy!

Fring's Back.

And with all good older / younger sibling dynamics, Chuck probably resented his parents for being so gullible and not supporting him more. As someone said upthread, going from his Illinois childhood to where he got as a lawyer must have taken Chuck a hell of a lot of hard work. We saw in season one what usually

I didn't get the impression he ruined the party. He invited 2 girls. His mother gave one of them a ride home. I got the impression that the story was designed to make us realize how much Jimmy's parents bent over backward for him. Chuck may have felt that ruined the party, but it didn't sound like it actually did.

The weird thing is that children perceive their parents as loving one child over the other, but the parents never see it themselves. They usually see it as helping the kid who needs help the most.

Agreed. When Chuck mentioned his mother leaving her own party early to run an errand for Jimmy, I thought, both these parents are suckers, saps. Chuck worked hard to get away from that and Jimmy became a wolf. But they were probably both reacting to their parents' weakness.

That's terrible! I hope someone was fired, etc, etc.

Oh man, somehow I forgot that Norman doesn't know that Norma is married!

Michael McKean has been tremendous in this role. His every movement, like looking up at the fluorescent lights when he hears about the address mistake in court, has revealed the character of Chuck McGill.

Agreed, I'm not sure Nacho really knew until Mike started asking about the police.

It would be nice to see the tension between Jimmy and Howard over the future of HHM. I think Chuck might linger around just for that angle.

That victory lap thing… Howard had just pointed out that it was just a hearing. Nothing to do victory laps about. For a moment I thought maybe Chuck meant his victory was appearing in court for the first time in years, but nope. He just wanted to gloat. No column B.
