jesus fucking christ I did NOT need to know that.

Yes, checkpoints in general are clearly unconstitutional; stopping everyone in a general area and investigating them for crimes without probable cause is exactly what the 4th amendment prohibits. But as you’ve highlighted above, there are certain limited exceptions. Airports are a great example. For obvious reasons we

If it was anything other than a driving offense checkpoints would be bullshit but driving is a privilege and not a right so you’re essentially agreeing to a whole different set of rules when you get your drivers license. I still don’t like the idea of a checkpoint for everyone regardless of any probably cause on

That’s the heart of the hypocrisy right there. They only want the benefits of the social contract, not the responsibilities.

If you get a car loan to pay a private party, no matter what, rates are usually 2x the Franchise transaction, despite good credit.

I’ve had both kinds and IMO you’re better off getting the fold out panels and setting it up so the panels are in the sun and the battery is behind them in the shade. The one that was both solar panel and battery didn’t last long before the whole thing was noticeably swollen and I stopped using it.

There’s simply no way that a corvette is a muscle car; it was designed purely to be a sports car and predates the entire concept of a muscle car. People only get them confused because so many iconic American sports cars have been muscle cars, and because the Corvette shared the small block with so many famous Pontiac

It becomes offensive because of the intrinsic value someone places on height, where being shorter-than-average is inherently negative in a way that being taller-than-average is not.

It just sort of gets weird when you look at a group of roommates that seem to have somehow all come together because of their height.

Assuming that corporations are even capably of shame is part of the problem with how we view capitalism. Corporations are amoral organizations that only exist to make money. they spend a lot of money and effort in making us view them as more than that, but that’s literally all they are and can ever be.

But if someone gets cut out of a movie is it asking too much for the studio to not show that person in the trailer? It’s really not worth a whole lawsuit but it’s ridiculous how corporations do whatever they want and their whole attitude is “if you don’t like it, sue me”.

Yes, art is subjective and there is no guarantee that you’ll enjoy a movie. but whether or not a given actor is in a movie is not subjective, that’s a matter of fact.

same here, started reading the paper version in the late 90's and for quite a while this was the best damn website on the internet. The group of writers that was around in the early to mid aughts was insanely good, and the commenter community was pretty excellent as well. The writers that came after the Rabin-led

You’re correct in practice but completely wrong on principle. It’s not OK for advertisement to be dishonest and letting movie trailers off the hook helps normalize the bullshit that other corporations get away with in ads about much more important subjects all the time.

They are dumb lawsuits but they are also making a semi-valid point about how dumb and misleading movie trailers are. Aren’t there truth in advertising laws on the books? Isn’t it factually misleading for a movie’s final trailer to feature an actor who isn’t in the film? I’m excluding teaser trailers because everyone

How did I miss that? Oh yeah, I was doped up on painkillers after getting wisdom teeth plus hit the vape before watching it. That’s a great way to greatly enjoy Blade Runner 2049 while not remembering much at all.

In theory if everyone stuck with the buffer approach you could eliminate the rubber band effect. Traffic would flow better in general and some traffic jams would be eliminated altogether. I don't think humans are capable of this but when true self driving cars are developed it will be easy.

I drive a stick so if traffic is just between stop and go and crawling I’ll definitely try to leave a buffer instead of clutching every 30 seconds. But certainly not to the point that 3-4 cars pile up behind me, that’s ridiculous.

Well if the comparison to that guy makes me a coward than I will happily agree; that has to be one of the most bad ass things anybody has ever done.

You made the following statement:
