I never got very far in this on PS3, despite playing GTAIV to completion. Not sure why, but I just wasn’t drawn in.

Great piece. I really enjoyed this game (despite a few of its faults) back on Wii. Moreover, I liked the direction the developers were trying to take with it, even if they stumbled occasionally. Its approach to terror was almost exclusively psychological, featuring the ultimate “untrustworthy narrator” framework. Even…
After trying some of the games that don’t feature free movement, I basically prefer that (as I’ve been kind of sensitive to any of the games with free movement). There’s so much you can do without walking in VR that it’s not the only draw. This is a major change from past gaming experiences. For example, Uncharted 4…
PS VR! I still have to work through much of the demo disc and VR Worlds. I also might get Batman VR and/or Job Simulator.
I’ll just keep an optimistic view and say that hopefully this will make the game great instead of just good. On the other hand, it could be making it simply good instead of mediocre. It’s really impossible to say which, but I’ve never been more curious to see how this game fares when (if?) it releases.
Boo.
This is kind of disappointing. I know he said not to focus on it, but they have to know people just want to meet up on planets. I hope they add this in a future update!
When is Nintendo going to hold an event (or Direct) to really unveil this thing? I’m so intrigued to get the actual specifications. Will the fact that it’s more of handheld (with a TV option) mean people won’t get so up-in-arms about the graphics not being above PS4?
I think part of the article’s point is that we shouldn’t be so limited in our understanding of the term. Even if VR will, presently and moving forward, be mainly about computer-generated VR, I think it’s fascinating to consider the history that’s gotten us to this point.
I like how he told people not to post his comments online, yet here we are reading about his comments online.
The Kickstarter page says that it only includes “properly licensed software,” yet they advertise Nintendo console compatibility. Obviously, the only way to play properly licensed Nintendo games is on Nintendo hardware, so how does that work? Does it basically just have the emulators on there and then you download the…
I wonder if they will somehow cancel/rescind orders after the fact, or if this will just be a crazy mistake.
I’m actually a huge fan of stealth (guns blazing gives me much more stress than hiding and waiting), so I have been absolutely enjoying being stealthy in Uncharted 4. It’s also a lighter version of stealth, which (I think) works well for the franchise. It’s interesting that you felt pulled to be stealthier than you…
I wondered about this, too! But all the computers and TV screens look current-day.
That was totally my perception of LEGO Dimensions, but then I received the starter pack as a holiday gift, and I have been extremely impressed. Even without all the additional characters and level packs, the core game is extremely fun, very deep, and the way you use the toys in the game is way more than a gimmick.…
Won’t it be weird to live in a world in which The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV are real products available for sale?
Couldn't we look at the reverse of this: instead of letting non-imprisoned people use VR to simulate solitary confinement, what if we used VR experiences to help rehabilitate criminals?
The other way they can work out for the consumer’s benefit is when they take advantage of something unique to the platform. For example, the DS library was great because of all the first and third party titles made exclusively for the strengths of the platform’s dual-screen, touch interface approach. That was a…
Exclusives on VR are an inevitability, but they’re kind of a bummer. The medium is so new and (relatively) expensive, that there are going to be limited gaming options for a while. The prospect of owning multiple VR headsets seems much less appealing than owning two or more consoles because none of them are proven…
I feel like this review warranted a “light spoilers” warning. Still, good analysis!
