I thoroughly enjoyed this review! Really well-written piece, and the loading screen metaphor resonates. I agree that the modern-stuff is mainly a yawn; I doubt I would miss it. Still, I'm heartened to hear that Ubisoft has at least made good (mostly) on their promise of a fun pirate game. It's a too often ignored

I agree that the original 3DS design is superior, but fore the resolution is part of the reason. More than that, though, the size of the system hits a better sweet spot since I do carry it all times (unlike my Vita, which is more of an around-the-house device).

Keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of network providers subsidizing their device cost like Apple. In general, though, I like the 3DS OS; I just wish it was a little snappier, performance-wise.

If Apple purchased Nintendo, I think they would systematically eradicate all buttons in favor of multitouch. That's a scary thought.

Yes! This just seemed like such a mess. And, yet, maybe it was the right message to get their audience interested in it enough that if their kids ask for it, they think it sounds fun.

Also, more Wii/WiiU confusion. The game is available on both, but:

Great point. I also wonder how Disney PR let them prattle on with such misinformation.

You really still think IGN and other major outlets are paid for their reviews? As Colin Moriarty of IGN once said on Podcast Beyond, that would be the biggest, most successful coverup in media history. Ridiculous.

Well, true...I guess I'm just always optimistic for an implementation of the tech that is so good and unexpected that we never could have known we wanted it. Maybe it doesn't exist, but maybe it does!

To be fair, basically all or most of these people haven't actually played Kinect 2.0. I'm more interested in seeing if the assurance that every Xbox One hasa Kinect makes it more compelling to devs.

I wish more of these would come to console. Nintendo should court these devs to Wii U and build a reputation for having the best indies. I know Sony is doing some if that, too, but Nintendo needs some neat exclusive content for Wii U, especially if they could get people adding cool Gamepad features to these unusual

Wow. But I totally can see this happening. Even friends of mine that have multiple consoles got confused about Wii U until they played it at my house a few times.

I actually liked that, but it's like a minute and a half long! When would something like this even air on TV?

I totally just lost 20 minutes of time that would have otherwise been spent playing Animal Crossing watching this guy's videos. So awesome!!

I see your point and don't claim to have all the answers, but don't you think something needs to change here? You can't say something like this in a letter without repercussions; why is the same, awful message in a different medium treated with less weight?

I wonder how soon it will be before this kind of stuff gets regulated in a real way. I know there are more and more attempts to get real identities and names used online, and that will help, but there needs to be an end in sight for this kind of behavior to just be something we sweep under the rug.

Yeah, maybe. Still weird. Time to upgrade, people!

Not that I am interested in the game, but I'm really shocked that The Smurfs 2 is coming out on every Nintendo platform EXCEPT the 3DS. That is easily the most successful of the 4, so this seems ill-advised.

Shrek! It's me, Donkey!

So, great frame rate aside...is it worth it to get these new games?
