In the evenings, Tom uses a lap desk over a lounge chair. This is our convertible workspace in the family room. It is comfortable and easy to set-up and take down. Other than that, our business requires a dedicated space. We have seen some convertible furniture out on the market in the office super stores that convert

Yes! We typically head out to the retail stores to do a survey or go work from Starbucks for a few hours. Occasionally we use the back porch and some sunshine too. This is a necessity.

Tracy, yes. Tom, no. Tom is very disciplined about stopping for lunch and catching up on Words with Friends or CNN at that time. I (Tracy) personally have a very difficult time with over-working. I try to squeeze every second of work out of my day, but I do take it slower in the morning than Tom does. We have each

We actually work with clients and vendors in 5 different time zones - UK, East Coast, Central, West Coast and China. For us it has become very critical to schedule time regularly. We have a weekly Skype with China every week when our product designs are in final sampling. It is still hard to manage though. Tom

Tom gave me a door for my birthday 2 years ago. It closed off my view of the kitchen and the piling dishes. We try to create a physical separation as well as a mental one. I am lucky because once I dive into something, it is extremely hard to stop.

We prefer to have a consistent work schedule and this is helped by school pick-up, dinner time, etc. This keeps us to a general schedule. But, creep into home life still happens. More so for us because our work is so collaborative and creative so we never know when ideas will strike. Our teen puts her foot down at

We do as mentioned above. We also have different style office sections albeit in a very, very small space - 350 sq ft. We have desks and also an Eames Lounge and ottoman that Tom uses to do CAD work.

If you think that working for yourself is going to be easier or less time consuming, think again. The benefit of flex time is definitely there, but it comes with a price of never being able to really stop working.

Good question. We actually share the same space, a converted dining room. Originally we used a partners desk and faced each other. However, our work styles clashed a bit. Tom typed too loud on his computer and our voices carried too much across the desk, so we separated ourselves within the space and have our bodies

Dishes and laundry. It is really difficult to not see them piling and feel obligated to do them. We try really hard to ignore all of that until the workday is done.

Right now we are working away from the home office at the Las Vegas Furniture Market internet lounge. Our daughters are watching each other while we are gone - a little scary - which one is in charge, the 18-year old or the toddler?

So sad to see design reduced to Design for Dummies. What ever happened to artisans and designers with vision? Maybe we need to push harder for a mandatory more well-rounded education in our schools including art and design, instead of hacks. This is only going to lead to more me-too homogenization.

Kickstarter needs to get more women attracted to their site to really have play for projects that deal with product designs. The types of projects that succeed on Kickstarter are not reflective of products that will succeed at retail without women and people with children in the mix. Most retail product categories

We designed our reVue TV mount because for many people, mounting the TV over the fireplace is the only solution due to room configurations. We made it height adjustable so it goes out and over the mantle. Unfortunately, we are in the Kickstarter stage right now and it is not yet available. We are hopeful though!

For club stores like Costco and Sam's Club, go for the coupon or advertised deals. These will be the best they offer because they offer a manufacturer kick-in as well as their discount. Great insight on retail deals here.
