Yeah, I started thinking about that last night after several other conversations. I guess I’m not trying to say that he’s had some sort of unfair advantage this year. Just that it’s been anything but a normal year, and that there will be naysayers who try to discredit a championship win this year because of it.

You bring up a good point.

I didn’t even think about the race factor. For the record, I’m not trying to discredit Hamilton’s wins or is talent here. But folks will. And I personally can’t disagree with them that this is a very unusual season.

Dude.  He might be one of if not the most incredible driver to ever sit in an F1 car.  All of the Senna fanboys will disagree for sure, but watching Hamilton work, it’s like magic.  And I’m saying this as somebody who would really like to see Ferrari win another championship.

Name calling and petty insults?

My intention is not to discredit the drivers and their crews/teams at all. In fact, you bring up a good point about this season being a lot harder. But, what I am trying to point out is that at the end of it all there’s not much normal this year. And some folks will try to discredit any achievements gained due to the

I want to start by saying that I’m not trying to attach a stigma to it myself. Merely pointing out that there are a lot of Hamilton haters out there who will attempt to do so.

You are correct in that they are all facing the same set of circumstances.  My intention was not to imply that Hamilton had some sort of

First of all, I have to say thank you for actually replying with a reasonable and well composed post instead of some of the more abrasive replies here. You’ve actually made some really good points here and given me some more to think about.

Second, I have to wonder if some of the folks coming out of the wood works to

I have to say, I am surprised that so many people have come out of the wood works to disagree with me. I’m not exactly a “hot take” kind of guy and, in fact, despise the whole trend of “hot takes”.

I’m not saying they’re not all dealing with the same circumstances. But what I am saying is that they aren’t all going to respond or even capable of responding to them in the same way. There are so many new variables this season that I find it hard to see how there won’t be a disclaimer in the record books.

Off the top of my head...

You are probably right. Just like nobody cares now that LeBron James won his first ring during a shortened season - AKA an asterisk year.

But that’s also my point. At the time, there were a lot of naysayers at the end of the season stating that LeBron was overhyped and needed a shorter season to finally win one.

Hah!  You make a very good point there.  Maybe both are asterisk years?  :)

It’s not the number of races. It’s the overall conditions they are being run in. I’ve made several other replies, but in short with everything going on in the world, it would be naive to think that the changes this year won’t have had an effect on at least some members of the race team in some way.  There are too many

I would disagree there. For one, there are plenty of reasons a driver’s performance could be thrown off. Overall COVID stress for one. But lack of pre-season testing for another. Lack of spectators creating a different race atmosphere.

But what about the rest of the race team? All it takes is for one mechanic to not be

Off the top of my head...

You have too few stars for such a great reference.

Eh, it’s an asterisk season anyway. It’s hard for me to get interested in the championship this year.  It’s just a shame that Hamilton’s record tying championship will be tainted by the asterisk this year.

This is America, where we all feel entitled to act like petulant children. So while I love this idea, I’m sure that come October we’ll hear about haunted houses opening and Halloween ragers where folks subsequently contract COVID. I mean, if you think about it, what can be scarier than having to be on a ventilator for
