Wait, wasn't his Gong Show reboot for GSN?

Interesting — when I think of 'classic Dave', it's exactly those Circlevision 360, the bootleg show, the helium show w Jane Pauley that springs to mind. for me. But yeah, you really have no choice but to either base a late night talk show on Carson or directly in opposition to it, but either way it's the lodestone.

Don't remember that one.

I remember that brief period when the rumors were swirling that Havey would take over the Late Night show from Letterman… as much as I ended up enjoying Conan, I still wonder about what that timeline would have been like.

Well, as MST3K established with their Steve-O-Meter, Steve Allen thought of everything first, including their Steve-O-Meter. From my point of view, the tone of Letterman (talking classic early-80s era) feels more like Kovacs, but that's all based on having watched a ton of Letterman, but only a tiny bit of either

You're really good at this. Got me again and then AGAIN.

I wish that either of Billy Kimball's shows had rated a mention here, either the great game show 'Clash', or the strange late-afternoon variety show 'After Drive' that he co-hosted with Denis Leary. The other thing that I really miss from that ca. 1990 Ha! lineup is that on late Sunday nights they would show old Ernie

I don't believe that any of these things really happened.

I thought that was the old dude in that Spike Lee movie. Wait, I mean "joint". Right?

Speaking as a creepy old dude, I cannot disagree more.

YES PLEASE WHERE DO I SIGN UP

Oh — oh — I know: every November a funny hippity-hop video where the ladies rap about going home to visit their parents! It's a hoot!

I thought you were.

Yeah, I've always assumed that it was a minimally-edited and restructured transcription.

…and 'The Joker' is pure genius when compared to…. maybe "Abracadabra"?

Not at all — I just lacked the appropriate nomenclature.

Thanks to that book, I can't hear the Steve Miller Band on the radio and not call him "sorry-ass cat Steve Miller" or "non-playing motherfucker"

and what about the mouthpiece? From here, that looks like a Bach, not the Heim 2 Vintage that Miles really used.
