It has gone downhill for years. Nothing against the current writers in general, but spanfeller killed it as a great site. Now I mostly come here for basic news, without any expectation of quality journalism.

I was tepid on Captain Marvel, but for reasons that had nothing to do with Larson’s performance (and far more to do with the fact that it felt too dissimilar to the dozen other Marvel origin stories we’d seen at that point, skrull twist notwithstanding). I hope she continues in the role for a long time, since she’s a…
So basically they’re making a Switch version of Fire Emblem Heroes. Hopefully at least it won’t have a gacha mechanic....
That’s my guess. Struck me as weird too.
....yeah, I’m from NJ (with a couple distant connections to Smith) and loved Dogma and everything, but they lost me completely at killing off Rosario Dawson. I went from having a reasonable amount of nostalgic interest in seeing this to actively wanting to pass. Only reason I might check it out now is if enough time…
That one’s in my backlog and I do hope to get to it eventually, though most of the rest I won’t bother with. (I like revolution-era American history too, so it’s a pity that AC3 doesn’t sound worth my time.)
I’m enough of a geek for that type of history that I loved running around the Aegean in Odyssey, which was the first in the franchise I played. Valhalla didn’t grab me the same way, but was fine. These also sound fine? But basically I’ll just wait for reviews and then decide if they’re worth my time - the settings are…
Also a lawyer here. Can confirm.
If you actually read Tolkien, it’s clear that a major theme of his work is rejecting toxic masculinity, even if he was a few decades too early to articulate it in those terms. The downfall of Morgoth, Sauron, and those they corrupt is due to anger, jealousy, and a desire to dominate others - the cornerstones of toxic…
Not a representative audience at all, but I saw so many vocal Tolkien “fans” who were determined to hate this show (for a wide variety of absurd/racist reasons) that I wouldn’t trust any aggregate review numbers. I’ll just gauge it the old-fashioned way - watching the fucking show and judging for myself.
I keep wondering what it is about Haddish that people love so much. I haven’t found her, like, actively unpleasant or anything, but she has never struck me as either funny, insightful, or especially talented (though I concede she has some general charisma). No idea if these allegations are true (if they are, fucking yi…
I guess Spears is having one of those weeks that will really test the old “no such thing as bad publicity” adage, eh? I hadn’t heard about him in any context for a decade (I never watched MadTV and vaguely remember his Comedy Central half-hour, but that’s it), and suddenly I’ve heard about him both for making…
On the one hand, things becoming public domain is a good thing. And yes, Rule 34 and all that. Still, I kinda hate that this exists? I know it’s not actually harming anyone or taking anything away from the original, but for some reason it almost strikes me as vaguely mean-spirited - like taking one of the few things…
Welp, this film just went from “I really am looking forward to seeing this in theaters, whether it’s a masterpiece or a fiasco” to “pass, and maybe I’ll watch it on netflix someday if I have insomnia.”
Pretty sure they do curse in the game now and then - I’ve definitely heard a character yell “shit” once or twice.
In Chapter 6 right now, and loving the hell out of this game. I adored XC1, thought XCX and XC2 were flawed but interesting, and this seems to have refined the formula and become the honest successor to the original. I’ve probably got another 30+ hours of XC3 to play, and I’m already sad about it ending soon - but I’m…
Honestly I’d prefer that. Pretty sure I caught 30 seconds of The Waterboy just a couple weeks ago while flipping to a ball game. They definitely had Sausage Party on this past Saturday evening, though I leave it to you whether that’s an upgrade over the Sandler movies.
I agree, but even though I (at 35) am at least a decade too old to care about the VMAs or watch it, it’s not like Comedy Central had anything better to air Sunday night. It’s not like this is worse than showing a mid-tier Adam Sandler movie for the 97th time.
In other words, “The ‘Walk of Life’ Project but it’s done in 2022.”
That reminds me, I need to rewatch Bridge on the River Kwai.
