The original All That will never be a good as Roundhouse.

The same way they do it here. They find and then funnel money into far right politicians at local and federal levels. With the same fear tactics and fear mongering in the states.

Two entirely different countries. I could never see it happening in NZ but Oz maybe. Some of their politicians are as bad as the Repubs.

Oz has had quite a few shootings (non on par with us/NZ recently) even when I lived there and there are defn guns but maybe the thing is not as many people in the country = not as

It’s obvious they’re a gun manufacturer lobby group more than anything else, but I’m curious how they think they’ll have as much success in countries without a second amendment.

I don’t know if anyone watches Patriot Act on Netflix, but one of the episodes talks about how the NRA is expanding globally, concentrating in New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil. And the same racist ideology that they spread here is the dame playbook they are using there. So the fact that that has migrated over there

Your dissertation committee may not always catch errors depending on the way you constitute your committee and also depending on the resources that are available at the institution and also department specific policies. Reviewers at a journal however, close read papers for those kinds of inconsistencies. It is why

I’ve got no plans for divorce, but I have to admit I have a mental apartment where everything is just so and just how I want it and his stupid table/dustcatcher is nowhere to be found.

Wow, that’s in part on Oxford, her supervisor and examiners. I wonder if her publishers had the book peer reviewed? From the link it doesn’t sound as if those cases were central to her thesis though.

Yes! My good friend is an academic and she mentioned this bit of information when we were chatting about Wolf’s interview. It’s one thing if it got past a regular editor, because commercial publishing is full of ‘fact-adjacent’ bullshit - no one really cares as long as it sells.

But this was her dissertation! Wtf?

She would have been served by publishing one or two papers based on her central thesis in peer-reviewed journals before using the book as a means of fleshing out her thoughts. It would have saved her all this headache, because academics, specifically historians reviewing the articles would have caught this error.

What surprises me is that the book was a rewriting of her Oxford doctoral dissertation, which means this fundamental error, which undercuts the premise of her book, made it past her thesis advisor and her viva/doctoral defense.

English legalese us notoriously complicated and convoluted in meaning. You would have thought that you would at least get some advice reading old legal texts! And apparently the Old Bailey's website itself explains the whole "death recorded" weirdness. Surely a quick Google could have told her this stuff.

I would assume that the onus is the author and anything grammatical would be on the editor only. If the person was writing a report on facts, the editor wouldn’t be the one to fact check that since it’s the authors work, not the editor.

And fact-checkers.

Aren’t mistakes like that the whole point of having an editor?

Wowww. Kevin Sr. is seeing the writing on the wall and doesn’t want to share his dwindling handouts with his & Wendy’s kid. I’m sure he pleaded with him that he’s got a family to take care of now.....

What Kev Sr. is really saying here is stop cutting out the middle man. If If Jr. accepts financial support from his mother independent of Sr. it weakens his child support claims. He wants Jr. to stop taking money only so “child support” payments can be funneled through him exclusively as a way to get more $$ from

“ Kevin Sr. has urged his son for a long time to carve his own path to success. We’re told things bubbled over Tuesday night when the conversation continued, and Sr. told Jr. he needed to work hard on his own and without Wendy’s handouts.”

If that ain’t some pot calling the kettle kinda bullshit though.
