I still prefer the theatrical releases of Fellowship and RotK—the latter because most of the extended content is just "cool stuff" that was justifiably left on the editing-room floor the first time around. (The added Mouth of Sauron scene is simply embarrassing.) Fellowship is a tougher one—a few of the Extended

Fer cryin' out loud, guys, Netflix still has a well-stocked DVD-by-mail option. Use it.

Honestly, though, I'd take any comics writer (with the possible exception of Frank Miller) over Mark Millar.

I'm right there with you, @avclub-859c9e789f331b02d5e87238023d84fb:disqus. Tree of Life does just about everything 2001 does (minus the technological themes), only better.

Captain America: Winter Soldier. Marvel movies all tend to cluster in the same place, quality-wise, but I prefer CA:WS for at least doing something interesting with the genre before succumbing to the boilerplate Big Explode-y Climax at the end.

Given that this list also includes Skyfall (which was visually gorgeous but was nothing special otherwise) and The Avengers (which isn't even the best Marvel movie), I'm thinking that "ridiculous" must be the theme they were shooting for.

Mountain Goats?

Pretty cool posts you have there about The Void. I'll probably never play it—it sounds too punishing even for me—but it seems interesting.

Anyone here ever play Pathologic? Now there's a game with some heady moral dilemmas. A friend and I blogged our way through the game (he played as the Bachelor, and I played as the Haruspicus), and I made some choices that were absolutely agonizing. I still think about them.

Multiplayer Conker's was a blast. Easily as much fun as Goldeneye. Especially the beach-assault mode, which I played for hours on end with my friends in college.

Man, I'm having PTSD flashbacks to those spaceship levels. So, so hard.

It was missing some of the charm, but I thought it was a worthy successor overall. It had the same punishing difficulty of the first game, and some of the levels were really cool. StarTropics 1 didn't let you fight a friggin' dragon, that's for sure.

"…thus taking care of the problem once and for all."
"But…"
"ONCE AND FOR ALL!!"

The title card is itself a reference to the title card of Funny Games, which just so happens to be another movie about how sick you are for getting your kicks from watching people die horribly.

Glad to see there are Gameological L4D2 players on here. We should meet up sometime. I'm nice, I promise! My ID on Steam is ClownShoes if anyone wants to friend me.

The problem with them making Diablo 3's story so propulsive was that it made very little sense to have a town or character dialogue options at all. "Dude, Diablo is literally dismantling Heaven right now! Why would you stop to talk to Generic Blacksmith about how he met-cute with his wife?"

His videos would be a lot funnier and more watchable if he would let up on the constant hollering and calm down on the editing.

Yeah, those last 10 minutes or so are seared into my brain. For as long as I live, I don't think I'll ever be able to get out of my head their victim's awful moan/scream as they begin to attack her. It's nightmarish.

Ugh, David Denby.

The latest Captain America, just off the top of my head.
