It’s hilarious to me that walking with a cane is less of a fashion faux pas than not wearing heels.

She seems to just completely lack nuance or a sense of the very recent history of obstetrics (twilight sleep was the norm until well into the 70s—it was not that long ago that we were literally drugging women, often against their will, into compliance during birth). She throws basic respect for women’s autonomy out

You quoted her and it included non-medicated vaginal birth. I am responding to her quote you posted. I also intend to breast feed.

Natural childbirth is not what is meant by “natural parenting”.

I hate the idea that those of us who want natural childbirth are crazy naturopaths. I love medicine and science and I know that if I undergo major surgery that isn’t really necessary, I open myself up to a greater risk of infection. Childbirth isn’t something we need medical interventions for in MOST cases. Obviously

Fair warning, though, Amy Tuteur (aka the Skeptical OB) frequently puts me on the A Pox on Both Your Houses side (#teamnoone) because she can be so incredibly obnoxious about stuff that really is not at all worth getting that obnoxious about.

Snake oil salesmen (and that’s essentially what these kind of naturopaths are) are very charming and convincing and I can entirely buy that these people thought they were doing what was best for their kid. I’m sure s/he had available legitimate looking “studies” from “journals” and “websites.”

I don’t know about criminal charges, but their other children need to be taken away. These white people get to keep their children, meanwhile Native American families have an uphill battle getting theirs back from white foster parents who never had the option to adopt. FFS.

From the county that gave us the career criminal sheriff, Mike Corona. I hope this is investigated fully.

Pretty much.

In the mid 80s a college professor told me a (possibly apocryphal) story about a male student who wrote an essay arguing that women were inherently less rigorous writers- using George Eliot’s work as an example of the epitome of said rigorous male writing that no woman could match.

Where in this piece did the author say Talese should be dis-credited for his early work? In fact she does the opposite, she gives him his due. Does this make him above criticism.

I think I’m doing ok! But thanks!

Rachel if it was you that ungreyed me then this gif is for you:

I also can't name a single female writer that inspires me. I can't name a male writer who inspires we either. I am a sentient hunk of cheese that someone plugged directly into the Internet. I am inspired by mold and bacteria.

I'm 32, and having been part of 3 different weddings in the past few years I think I can say, confidently and definitively, that weddings are fucking stupid.

God I hate April 1st.

Plus, if any man is telling the truth, we sit to pee as well about 1/4-1/2 the time we’re in our own home. Especially when you get up at night and you don’t want to blind yourself by turning a light on.

Because women fall into the toilet if the seat is up and they sit down without realizing. My fiancée explained this me when it happened to her groggily at 5am at my apartment. Seems reasonable right?

It is, as they say, good kinja.
