Gen X mother of a Gen Z: Gen X is cynical enough that a number of us taught our kids “the system and how to appear successful” while counseling how to survive emotionally and spiritually.  Then our Gen Z progeny taught us how they would pull this off on their own terms, thank you.

Nah, we’re so cynical it won’t work as well.  We’ll just quietly fade out, sardonically laughing until the end.

There are simply not enough appropriate emojis and curse words to encompass the needs of this era.

Same. The Expanse centers on the women, over and over and over again. The television series went next level with that.

I think of Holden as more of an after thought, an anchor for those who somehow need the show to be about a dude, to only realize later he’s a lame dude, and nowhere near as fascinating as the women.

You forgot my fave: “Education: School of Hard Knocks”.

I realize the goal is increasing intrinsic motivation. That can work very well, until roughly the teen years, when I think pieces of what young people are learning are about boundaries, individuation, consequences, what feels good vs. what doesn’t feel good, short term vs. long term gratification, as well as how to

It’s going to be ok.  Don’t stop looking for support for your kid--or for yourself.  Parenting is hard, and our young people need us to not give up on them or ourselves.  Big hugs to you.

If you are in the state of Oregon, check with your county public health clinic—many of our communities have supplemental free or low cost health care clinics as well.

Some of our K12 school districts likewise have low cost clinics that serve parents as well as kids.

Even if you are a single adult, you might also be

Thank you! I don’t want to “up vote” the asshole you replied to, so adding my commentary here:

Sure, “my body, my choice”. I have had life long respiratory issues, which began when I was a young child—I have asthma as an adult as well.

Every time some non-flu-shot-getting asshole person “my body, my choice”’s this, they

Those of us in states with active militias, sage brush rebellions, etc. know that they aren’t all lazy.  There’s a reason the Malheur takeover occurred in Oregon--and it’s not laziness.

You show your kids how to be an adult and don’t make a big deal about it. When you model body policing, especially of women, that’s on you.

I’m enraged anyone would work against prison reform to keep open access to near slave labor. That’s not a budget plan. That’s a human rights violation.

What a twat.

I know it’s several years later, but I wanted to say thank you. When they announced The Witcher series would come to Netflix, I decided I would probably enjoy it more if I read the books first. Your post made it possible to do this in a sensible order, and I’ve really enjoyed it. Just started the final book and I

T2 diabetic on a doctor supervised keto diet—I love using CarbManager. I spent 30 days using CarbManager, MFP, Chronometer and a couple others I don’t remember.  I preferred CarbManager for my needs, especially since it lets me set diabetes carbs (which don’t subtract fiber), and I can easily enter blood sugar levels

Sorry, I’d rather pay to watch Kristen Stewart holding her girlfriend’s hand and having an enjoyable life.

I appreciate you sharing your experience--I wish he could read this or have someone communicate it to him.  :(

I’m really sorry about the assholes. People who do not have kids on the spectrum do not understand—and God forbid they become parents of kids on the spectrum.  It would be unfortunate for those children.

Yes!  I had a hysterectomy earlier this summer and needed some summer-wear dresses that would be forgiving around the waist line--I’m now almost 3 months post op and the dresses have been fantastic to lounge around in, exercise in.  $19.95 is seriously in my budget!

When I wear dresses for exercise (and that’s a good portion of the time), I also wear low cost cotton blend bike shorts I get from WalMart. Rainbeau Curves has bike shorts, but I seem to recall they may not be cotton blend—or they might be out of my price point.

The WalMart DanskinNow brand is great for helping me
