Some of the commentary makes me very sad. The purpose of reading aloud to children isn’t for me as an adult to be entertained—it’s for children to be entertained, to learn that reading is both fun and a time of closeness, and especially that books are magical.  My parents also quickly turned it around so that I read

Respectfully, I disagree. I would also like to point out that the books aren’t meant to be for adult enjoyment, they are for children to enjoy. What you thought was cool at 5 versus what you think is cool at 35 should be vastly different.
I did my time as a mom reading books or stories that perhaps weren’t my fave, but

Agree, he’s so talented.

Same.  I’m a larger woman and finding good plus size clothing at Good Will or Salvation Army can be hard to do.

You are describing how I dealt with onions--at a certain point in my teen years I simply asked my mom if I could chop the onions, because I was willing and able to spend more time dicing them finely.

OMG that whole thing with chest and body hair and porn stache--I was born in 1968, and I have to say it’s still the aesthetic I love--although I’ve graduated from mustaches to beards.

While I am sorry for the lingering physical difficulties that c-sections may have left you with--your births were good births, you are healthy and your babies are here and healthy.  Well done mama.

Vote by mail sends the ballots weeks in advance.  So you are effectively voting early if you choose to complete your ballot within 24 hours of receiving it.  Me?  I like to wait until 24 hours until it’s time to turn in, and drive 3 minutes to my local ballot drop box just because.

It doesn’t take a lot of time to report that page, that post, or any other posts or images on that page.  Take a couple minutes to do that now and let’s shut down one channel of spew, even if only for today.

This, a thousand times. I’m 3rd generation Mexican American. I am not going to be deported, and I can’t imagine the absolute pain of growing up in this level of fear. When I’ve encountered people who smugly say they aren’t going to vote, or look at the GOP or Dem choice and then declare, “It’s such a hard choice,” I’m

All you people in states waiting in line to vote: if you manage to flip anything, please do yourselves a favor and get vote by mail implemented.  I’m in Oregon, and any of us in the US states where vote by mail is how we vote can testify:  this is a far superior system.

Wow...I could fall asleep to this.  It’s shockingly soothing.

Yes, nursing babies, definitely--and God forbid you have a pattern on your shirt that somehow mimics the look of a breast (circle with smaller circle in it).

I live in a community where extended breastfeeding is very common—have never run into an extended breastfed kid who would do this.

Weaned Butter Jr. at or just before 3—ish. Don’t remember the exact age or date. What I do remember is that I was ready, she probably could have kept going. No judgement on parents who nurse longer or shorter time periods.

Regardless:  my body responds differently to it.  And I would never add more than a couple teaspoons of a sweetener in a recipe like that.  When I see something like that in a recipe, I dramatically reduce it--also notice it’s apple juice OR coconut sugar, not and.  ;)  Written that way for a reason.

I would never have added that much sugar, 1 cup is a lot in my world. When I see recommendations like that, I already know my taste buds are tuned for experiencing much lower levels of the flavor of sweet as sufficient—roasted bell peppers, browned onions, steamed collards that have been through their first frost—all

Coconut sugar is not the same—it’s got half the glycemic index as cane sugar in any form. For me personally I don’t get blood sugar spikes with it, and if I’m interested in an alternatively sweetened treat to make at home, it allows me to sate that without setting off a crazed round of spikes and cravings that I get

Wanted to add there are side benefits to this microburst activity—I work in tech, sedentary job from a home office. I developed Type 2 diabetes. At the time I was working more than full time, and finishing a college degree and parent of an active teen who had some specialized emotional needs (under the care of a

Walking back from Type 2 diabetes (first normal blood sugar reading in over a decade happened about 3 weeks ago!)—so you can imagine I’m already a bit hair trigger in my reactions to adding white or brown sugar to recipes. :)
