After attending my first chumpcar race over the weekend I was reminded just how quick FWD cars can be, in fact the 6 hour race on Sunday finished with an all VW podium with the only e30 in the race finishing 5th, and the 79 Scirocco with a 2.0L ABA putting down fastest lap of the race and taking the win.

Luckily BMW did make the last generation (E91) 328i Touring with a Manual, which is part of the reason I snatched one when I learned the F31 would not be offered with a Manual, though I wasn't expecting the switch to xDrive only!

I imagine the white one in the background is the 3rd car.

That is where you are missing the most exciting part of Formula E. The drivers will all be getting out and running around pit lane trying to find their second car during a pit stop, and while that is plenty entertaining enough, it also means after a pit stop the drivers will have to accustom themselves to a new setup!

Looks like there are straps all over the ground. Likely one snapped and the extra strain on the rest caused them to break as well, or the ice helped cars slide out from under the straps with all the rocking and rolling. Pretty crazy.
