Anne Bonny wasn't the only female pirate, and definitely not the most successful. The most successful pirate – female or male – ever was Ching Shih, who went from working as a prostitute to building and leading one of the largest standing Navies in the 19th Century world, with estimates ranging from 300-1,800 ships

This is why I tell people we must keep fighting. If everyone thinks sexism is over, they become complacent and at risk to falling back into it.

Based on how women can be denied necessary medications by pharmacy or prescriber who feels like it, or how easily our right to privacy has been violated, and how easily due process rights have been violated, and how easily we've violated the Geneva Convention... it just seems like, yeah, this isn't a generation for

It doesn't take much for people to lose their rights.

Really? Maybe not in NYC but out in the conservative middle of the country they have plenty of laws such as forcing a woman to have a transvaginal ultrasound before getting an abortion, if in fact, she can get an abortion because the Republicans have used their political power to shut down an abortion clinic.

Well, all of history suggests that it would. Women have gained and lost rights throughout recorded history. Voting rights didn't exist for a huge part of that time, but property rights did. And women gained and lost those at different periods.

You really haven't watched news lately?

no disrespect and I'm pleased as punch for any diversity at all however this photo hardly qualifies as diversity or groundbreaking. . While yes, beautiful of course, the model appears fairer than I do. (White, Irish complexion). This is not a triumph. When the model on the cover is the shade of whoopie goldberg,

I was also going to comment on this. She appears very fair skinned on the cover. Colorism is alive and well regardless.

I mean sure but they made sure her hair was blonde and lighted her so her skin would look lighter than it is. But I'm sleep.

I can't exactly say I support harassment, but I won't shed any tears for her if she is.

If she didn't love her for who she was, she didn't really love her at all. At least that's how I see it. She emotionally abused her wonderful daughter, and Leelah paid the ultimate price for it.

Is there a sort of underground railroad for teens who are kicked out of their homes, or are in bad home situations like Leelah's, where understanding people can take in these kids and give them a safe place to stay? I am lucky to have had two supportive parents who loved me even though I am a lesbian, but estimates

I think she loved the idea of her child, and who she thought her child should be, but not the reality of who she was. It's sadly common, not just parent to kid but in all sorts of relationships. I refuse to write most people off as evil, though there are of course exceptions. I try to understand people, even the worst

It's really difficult not to hate this woman. I grew up in this kind of smug, judgmental, repressed religious environment. People thought they were so nice and generous when they condescended to hate the sin, etc., but the stifling of individuality, of independence, of sexuality of any kind was just so fucking stupid.

I gave my daughter an extra big hug today and told her I don't care about who she comes home with or as as long as she's happy and safe and loved.

Oh my god lady, your daughter literally said you were part of the reason she was killing herself. Maybe think about what that means instead of running your mouth about how it wasn't your fault and disrespecting your kid even in death.

But, but- religion is never an aggravator of such problems. No, no, religion is just dandy and Christianity is a religion of love! Love thy child, love thy neighbour...

Well, that's just perfect.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but "storming the building" sounds more like an armed attempt to get inside. An attempted sit-in is not "storming the building."
