I think the history revealed in TWS seems to imply that SHIELD may have started as a US (or US/Britain)-funded organization, but then blossomed outward into some sort of NATO-like multinational military/intelligence operation. It's definitely a little confusing either way. Alexander Pierce's story about the station

I also missed Scrooged, but it was because I didn't realize the future segment of the movie was meant to be 2010. That somehow seems really far off, but I guess it's probably mentioned maybe on Frank Cross's tombstone or something?

I think (not totally sure) that SHIELD in the Cinematic universe is a US-based organization, unlike the comics-verse version. I'm not sure if that's directly stated ever, but the presence of the word "homeland" in the acronym definitely led me to think that.

I never got the impression SHIELD was supposed to be the "best" or the "goodest" of people at all. They're a huge intelligence organization that, even before the HYDRA corruption was known, happily employed a sexy ex-KGB murderer specifically because they needed someone good at killing. They may have ostensibly been

Yeah, that's exactly right (Cap1 happened to be on TV after I got home from Cap2 yesterday, so I watched it). The "mystery man" who saved the kid from the Hydra agent (who looked EXACTLY like Clark Kent, oddly) made headlines, and the Senator or whatever thought he'd be good in USO shows.

He's Thor. His plan amounts to "hit things with my hammer". That's ALWAYS his plan.

7) Why didn't Tony call his 41 other suits of armor earlier in Iron Man 3?

Yeah, I think the answer to that is "to sell war bonds". Invading Europe ain't cheap! There's no reason for them to assume that one guy will be particularly more effective than the thousands and thousands of other guys who are already over there (at that point).

Ahaha I came here to post this very same one. Fantastic episode overall and definitely one of their very best cold opens. It's really weird that there appears to be almost nothing available streaming from it.

I coincidentally watched both Tangled and Frozen for the first time this weekend and I enjoyed Tangled WAY more. It was just more fun. Maybe I had too many built-up expectations for Frozen but, while it was perfectly fine and all, in the end it left me a little cold (oh ho ho, puns!).

I assume "The Maiden and the Bear Gods" is essentially just George RR Martin's novel-length version of the song "The Bear and the Maiden Fair".

Finally, internet immortality for the burner account I've been using for far too long!

I look at that picture of the Red Queen and all I see is the '90s X-Men action figure of the Goblin Queen-

Yes, you're probably right, that sample won't wind up in his eyeballs or something at all. I'm sure that's what will happen!

He's got a surprisingly rich voice!

At least cyalume glows, thus making it fun to look at. Black goo just looks the toilets in a particularly bad seafood restaurant.

He did watch it. He had a screener.

REANIMATOR

ETA- [annoyed grunt] of course someone already thought of the blue milk!

That's some serious dedication to getting drunk- first you gotta plant the vineyard, then you gotta wait for it to grow, then you have to stomp the grapes, THEN you have to bottle it all and wait for it to ferment. It takes a forward-thinking man to decide "hey, about a year from now, I wanna get hammered. LET'S DO
